have you ever encountered people who cheat in WoW? I have encountered a few, nothing major though. But have you ever encountered a person who cheated a lot? Did you catch the person in the act? What did you do?

Discuss the annoying people who cheat.

I have encountered some who cheat, or hack, but they usually get dealt with really fast. WoW is protected a lot these days from what I can tell and I really love that. I really don't get why people do this sort of thing, is it because they find it funny to mess with other players? It's pathetic!

I agree, I thought the game was too moderated to have anyone cheat too bad. Me and a bunch of friends would pay for gold back in the day. We chose our server based on the cheapest prices for gold. That was during vanilla when everything was way more challenging, it doesn't make much sense now.

If by "cheating" you mean botting then yes, what I do like about WoW is that its been kept relatively bot free and fair for all. You do get glitchers abusing the environment but that's more of an exploration type thing and doesn't really affect anyone plus Blizzard usually clears them up ASAP.

On WoW as others have said it's policed really well, but on GW2 for example there was tons of botters at the start and obviously they didn't have enough man power to deal with them. It's sorted now though, mostly.

Hackers and cheaters are nothing new, they appear not only in World of Warcraft, but in other games as well. Sometimes it's really annoying watching them get ahead of you, because of their cheat/hack not because of their skill.

Clearly you dont play BGs. They are littered with bots who do nothing but drag your team down. It's super annoying and I really hope Blizzard is able to do something about it soon because it really does ruin your team effort.

Yesterday when I played I encountered a guy who was teleported on a specific location and eventually summoned me. We spoke a lot and the funny part is, they take some time to catch them. I didn't report him because he seemed like a cool guy. We just spent some time talking casually and that was pretty much it.

I have seen many bots, there was even a software named "Glider" or something like that which would let you bot unlimited number of characters. Blizzard has done good job banning all these, but I have seen them for at least once a week when I was playing WoW from 2005 to 2008ish

I have had chinese botters get mad at me while farming and leveling my hunter, this was back in the vanilla WoW days. They were so mad that they were threatening to report me to the mods because I was stealing every node and mob before they could run their greedy grubby dwarf bot hands all over it. I excelled in tagging and kiting mobs, as well as using my pet to grab mobs so I made sure they weren't getting jack and shit done. Funny thing was, they did actually call an admin on me and they were asking me stupid questions and I did turn the admin back onto them and they got banned.

This happened to me too, except I never got them banned. I once managed to get a chinese botter to have a conversation with me. Ni hao!

Aside from botters, I've never really seen cheating - or at least I'm too stupid to notice it, though I don't play a great deal of the PVP content and I'd assume that people don't need to cheat to get there way with the PVE content in the game.

I have encountered many idiots on private servers that killed you telepathically from another continent :) . On original Blizzard servers I never had any problems, only the common enervating players that have nothing better to do.

Botters I report as soon as I learn about them or if I suspect them. They're annoying, they affect the game play and they frustrate me. Rowro, I'm not sure if you're talking bots in BG's or if you're talking multi-boxing. If you suspect bots in battlegrounds then report them, but multi-boxers are totally permitted and to the best of my knowledge not against TOS.

You report them as soon as you see one. I personally haven't run into many but I can guess that it would be incredibly annoying to be killed by one of the so called botters.

I guess you could call it that, I mean it was a form of flyhacking.
I remember way back in Wotlk when we were all in IF or SW. There used to be gold sellers that lined up, started flying and died instantly in such a formation that their corpses spelled out the name of the site. Really clever thing, GMs couldn't remove it and it was free advertising for them.

Sure, I've seen my fair share of hackers during my time, and have seen even friends and associates do it, much to my surprise. Kind of like when questing at Westfall with my buddy and I see him going at the speed of light randomly to turn something in, ask him the hell's happening, and get offered a speedhack. I don't really see the appeal, it kills the fun completely.

Eh, I have ran into bots a few times and reported them. Those can get really annoying. As for real players who do things to "cheat," it's usually do to exploiting something in game and then as more people hear about it, they do it.... and then in a relatively short amount of time, Blizz will release a hotfix that takes care of it. It's rare for an exploit to stick around long enough for it to be a big deal.

Here is a non-bot cheat (or I think it was) that I encountered a few years ago. Using the dungeon finder I was grouped with four other players as expected. About 75% of the way through the Wailing Caverns I rolled need on an item and won. As this was an item that was significantly better than what I had equipped, I thought - Great! Three of the other players were friends I guess and demanded that I turn over the item to one of them. When I said no I intended to use the item - they booted me. As I was only in there to get the achievement in the first place, I was more than a little annoyed at the time wasted. I reported them, but only ever got a generic response back from the powers that be.
