So yeah the Limitied Edtion thread was spammed with remarks about pirating, so I though we should have a thread about it. So here you go, discuss pirating :)

I'm not sure if anyone still wants to... pretty much everything has been said in the other thread and I personally can't be bothered to get involved again. :p Still, I bet there will be one or two people who might be willing to discuss this so this thread is a good idea. I might join too if an interesting conversation gets going. :)

    what type of Pirating?

The Arggg! Im gonna steal your Goods!
    or
Argggg! Im gonna Steal your Non-Tangible goods

But in all honesty, Pirating stuff is fine, as long as its hard as hell to find elsewhere, Majorly overpriced or the thing dosnt have a demo. If you like it, Buy it all in all

I don't really like Pirating but I don't care as much if the game you are pirating is for example Call of Duty. In my opinion I still don't like it.

Pirating AAA games that are bound to be profitable is fine. There's only one type of piracy I'm firmly against: indie games. This is not done, folks. And if someone out there thinks piracy is stealing no matter how one looks at it; do yourself a favour by reconsidering the bloody nuances. There's an enourmous difference between stealing from the rich and stealing from the poor.

And again, it's not directly stealing from the rich either. All that happens when you pirate something, is:
You get a game/movie/series without deserving it, because you didn't make the sacrifice which is lawfully required for it.
The company does not lose the item that you pirated. All they lose, is the money that you haven't given them yet.

I also agree that pirating is fine when it's a company that is bound to be successful either way, and/or if the item you are pirating is close to impossible to find elsewhere and/or if it's overpriced.
Although I go by those rules, I still buy the games with my money, usually. If it's a company that is poor and truly needs and/or deserves my money, I buy the game.
I admit that I pirated the first eight episodes of The Walking Dead Season 3, but that's just because I have been waiting a very long time to see Season 3 and couldn't wait for its late release in Norway. I had been expecting for it to be released at least in middle of Autumn, hopefully early Autumn. Now it's winter already, and it's still not released in Norway. Actually, it's not completely released at all. Episode nine doesn't come out in America before February.

Cerberus, could you please explain for me why we shouldn't pirate games from Indie?

Other than Minecraft there hasn't been really any indie games that get known that well. Look at SPAZ. That game is amazing with free content but the game isn't that well known.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Skyrim from Indie? Or is that perhaps Bungie?

I think pirating games is wrong for the most part, if you have other options. I mean, if you have a steady source of income and pirate because you don't like paying for things, then I'd say that's wrong. I think it is stealing a product that somebody took time to make. Though, like Cerberus, I think there's a big difference between stealing from an indie game versus pirating something from EA.

I can't pirate, because I play on console, and I wouldn't even if I played on PC or something. I'm opposed to pirating overall, but I think in some situations it's understandable.

Working on a video game, I see the ridiculous amount of work which goes into it. Just from the art side, it's a struggle, and every design decision is difficult. So yeah, I'm against piracy. These games aren't easy or cheap to make..

Von Streff is right. In the article I mentioned in the "THQ bankrupt" thread, it mentions that making a game for XBox can cost around $10 million.
