I saw a talk on TED a few years back about applying a game layer to the real world and it was interesting. I would credit someone else with the idea as it is not my own but unfortunately I do not have the name.

How would we operate differently if we set up out lives as an MMO (obviously not going out and killing 10 orcs)?
Reward based chores? Do the dishes earn 1 gold (or token or whatever)
Tasks and Achievements? Gather 5 pieces of garden equipment and put them in the shed - reward: Two cookies.
Quests? Find Mr. Muffins the missing cat. ...you get the idea.

We already have the game world in place, good frame-rate, nice graphics, we just need the quests tasks and achievements. Which ones will you put into the game?

Hahaha I love that picture CeliVega, to the OP this would be a somewhat good MMO to give a go lol.

    Let's have some fun :)

I don't really like the fact that you can only log off the game after 15 or 16 hours. This game forces you to play the game even if you don't feel like playing at the moment. The only way to log off is when your energy point hit a very low point, and you get to log off for a few hours to replenish your energy points. I have heard about how some people can continue with the game for 48 hours in one go >_> I wonder if I can get to their level one day?

Also I think it's really challenging that they require real money for their in game currency. I know sometimes when you pour money into a MMORPG, you get a really good stats or advantages compared to the other players, but this game is just ridiculous. I need money for literally anything! It's rare for them to have events that offer free items or weapons that will help you in the long run......I bought a burger to replenish my energy point, and they offer me free......tissues?! I need something more useful :p

Isn't this what is happening in most reality TV shows? There is this reality TV show in Japan where the TV show follows the daily lives of the participants and before an episode begins, the show will announce on the screen (without the participants knowing) the activity that will warrant a reward if any of the participants perform the task. And we are talking about activities or tasks that are supposedly part of our daily lives. For example, if any of the participants take out their trash and practice segregation properly on that day then the participant will earn points. And because the task is not announced to the participants, they don't know what to do to earn points for that day and just have to do what they are suppose do in their everyday life and hope that one of their activities is the must-do task that will earn them points. If taking out the trash is not what you do in your life (I can only imagine what your house would be like if you don't even do this lol XD) or if this is somebody else's responsibility in your house then better luck next time.

That sounds a little less appealing then I had originally thought I am afraid.

What is this show called? I would love to have a go at this. Lately, I've been obsessed with Batsu games with Downtown.

Actually I think that real life that we go through each day is an MMO of some sort. It's just that we don't go and kill monsters and stuff. We get quests and complete them differently and get paid doing them.

Celivega - you have been promoted to marketing guru. I think we would do better off, however, if we charges a low monthly fee to all the players. I don't think we would lose too much of our customer base. Players will have to be limited to a single avatar though and permadeath would have to be a feature of the game.

When I play the game I play under the assumption that this game is free-to-play. And then I realized the game is secretly charging me! Every 30 days I will be required to pay for the so-called "bills" to the house that my avatar is living in. So I think there's no need to charge the player for the game, because the developers are already doing it......I felt so ripped off :p

A single avatar and permanent death......I don't know man, I heard how there's no way you can get back into the game once you are dead or get a "game over", so I have never try it out myself.

Permadeath....sounds like BTooom to me. :D And I loled at those hidden charges, that's so like internet and cable TV bills with those "where the f*ck did this charge came from?" thing. (>_<)

I forgot the title of the show, it has been a while since it last aired. I used to watch it on JET TV, a cable channel here in Singapore that caters to Japanese entertainment. I think it lasted for two or three short seasons maybe 6 years ago and then stopped airing, probably because it wasn't appealing for the taste of the Japanese. Apparently, Big Brother-like reality shows isn't their cup of tea. They love game/quiz and variety shows over reality shows, which is why shows like Gaki no Tsukai, Mecha-Ike and Waratte Iitomo are huge hit and have high ratings.

Some of this exists already. Take google's ingress for example, you need to visit different locations around the area you live in and conquer them from the enemy.

Games will inevitably become a part of real life at some point. I can't remember where they did this, but somewhere some smart people created a game that allowed them to control the amount of people using the different metro lines. Results -> people had something to do while commuting and the metro service itself was working a lot better since they could direct people to where they had more space and away from the crowded areas.

Virtual reality will do this for a lot of people. I think that MMOs will get more and more and more realistic and even addictive. This could be amazing and extremely dangerous for some people, who would put the game before real life.

This is amazing! I think I will have to try and find it, it's exactly what this thread is all about. At times, I feel like our lives are a game in that there are hidden tasks to achieve that we don't even know about, that will unlock vast treasures! Now if there was only a "cheat" blog to go to when we get stuck, that would make my game complete!

That is a crazy way to be. I have taken random breaks before and a few cat naps to go through a weekend but there is no way I could go that long without getting the dreaded eyeball fuzzies or starting to see little red spiders.
