I have played Metro 2033 through quite a few times now both aggressively and stealth and what i found on every playthrough (except when i went crazy on easy shooting hundreds of MGR at everything) was that the agressive ones ended up with way more rounds than the stealthy ones. My solution to this is not to make enemies harded to kill because i think that that is almost perfect now instead make them drop much less, killing a random soldier takes me 1-2 rounds of dirty bullets or balls when i loot them they drop around 1-3 shotgun shells usually a grenade a few dirty bullets and sometimes balls if this was reduced drastically and instead of putting most of the loot on corpses put it in boxes and on crates that way a stealthy player can steal it and come away with just as much loot.

Now obviously a stealthy player doesn't need the ammo because they are not killing anybody but i found on my stealth playthroughs i had hardally any ammo to deal with the enemies you cannot avoid and didn't even come close to the 500 MGR needed for the achivement. Compared to an agressive playthrough where i had 600+ MGR.

  2. You are doing it wrong. There are 1,391 MGRs in the game.

Wow, that is a lot, especially if you go stealth and are stingy with your money... let's hope they really cut down on these for the next game (at least in Ranger mode).

  7. Obviously you can't get EVERY SINGLE ONE without murdering humans, which I assume is forbidden in "playing stealth", but a situation like this is entirely plausible. Also the number of MGRs is the same on all difficulties. You can find 1391 on Easy and 1391 on Ranger Hardcore.

Yep, this is entirely possible, and what needs to change. Of course, as someone said, not everyone has hours and hours of experience in this game. :)

I usually end up being stealthy for a bit taking out a few guards etc and then just go in there and fuck everyone else up. Depends on playing style. I've played through all stealth and all aggression, even tried what someone called the cowboy play through where you can only use the magnum, pipe bombs and knives. I didn't know if you had to or not but I used the default magnum just in case. (tip: don't buy the stealth suit, the default is perfectly fine for stealth) Personally don't think the stealth needs rewarding since you still get enough MGR to run through the game without struggling.
