    Has anyone heard how this will affect gameplay?

    It depends on whether they decide to launch the free to play version outside steam, or on steam. If it's going to be a steam release then it will probably not affect it in any way or form. If not, your guess is as good as anybodies.

    I think that rift might attract more of the hardcore player where WOW certainly has catered to the casual player

    with some limitations of a f2p game so you might want to pay to make it easier if you really hate excessive grinding

    I was very happy to hear that you could play this game with no restrictions.
    I returned to the game and was extremely disappointed to find my cleric
    had a class overhaul and I could no longer make it constantly rain on my party,
    and the healing orb animation looked awful. I need to level her up but this has
    made me too mad to want to try.

    It only affects it positively, because rift is a game that requires a lot of people to co-operate and team up, usually guilds cover that but before the free 2 play update, I had bought a month of the game - and I've noticed that it's a lot more fun and a lot more crowded. Usually on the 20-30 level zones, you can't see a soul. No one helps with rift. But now - they're everywhere!

    And it's not like world of warcraft, that the more players - the worse, in rift it's for the better.
