Roleplay proposition

Discussion in 'Other' started by Komodo Saurian, Sep 30, 2014.

  1. Hey there folks. I've decided to participate in the RP section for once and I've got a suggestion.

How about we play this little forum game?

You can find more info on its history here.

My proposed premise is a Metro-universe rag-tag expedition fighting over a certain artifact of the past while waiting out a radioactive storm in a bunker. The storm will magically dissipate once one of the teams wins. The expedition will consist of ordinary mercenaries (The uninformed majority), an undercover team of the Reich or the Red Line operatives (The informed minority), a Sparta Order agent (The sheriff) and a mad cultist (The murderer).

Every participant will receive a newly made account to ensure anonymity with one of the following roles:

Mercenaries - These are in the the paycheck. They don't know who is a mercenary, an undercover operative, a Spartan or a cultist. Their task is to find and eliminate all operatives and the cultist.

Operatives - They are here for the artifact. They know each other and nobody else. They can communicate with each other (via Skype, for instance) and decide their next mark for each day. Their task it to find and eliminate all mercenaries, the Spartan and the cultist.

Spartan - He or she is here to make sure the artifact doesn't end up in wrong hands. He doesn't know who is who, but has the ability to secretely "check" other players once per in-game day, which is fatal for the insane cultist or the operatives. His task is to find and eliminate all operatives and the cultist.

Cultist - He is here for the artifact. Nobody can else have it, so everyone else will have to die. He doesn't know who is who, but can murder anyone once per day.

Game master - A coordinator of the ensuing manslaughter and doesn't directly participate in the game.

Everyone - Every player pretends to be a mercenary and participates in the voting as a mercenary daily.

Depending on the number of players participating in the game, the character roster will change.

    • 9, 10 or 11 players: 3 operatives and 1 cultist
    • 12, 13 or 14 players: 4 operatives, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan
    • 15, 16 or 17 players: 5 operatives, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • 18, 19 or 20 players: 6 operatives who can order the murder of two players in the first day, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • 21, 22 or 23 players: 7 operatives who can order the murder of two players in the first two days, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • And so on, you get the idea.

Interesting idea. This is a typical game I've seen played in many different ways in different places, but not in a Metro setting :D
One thing I don't really get my mind around, though, is how this is going to be played out exactly?
We're also not going to have so much as nine players, I assume.

  3. All participants play out their own make-believe stories they created for their characters and deal with the situation at hand (Being locked up in a bunker with a bunch of suspicious people and a grand treasure) while making sure they do not reveal their actual role in a separate thread for each day and can vote at any time by painting the name of their proposed mark red. At the end of the in-game day the Game Master will close the thread and start a new one, with the description of the events, which incorporate the execution by the mercenaries (Through public voting), the elimination of a player by the operatives (Through a PM to the game master) and the gruesome ritualistic (Or surgical and tidy. The player writes it him- or herself) murder by the cultist (Through a PM to the game master).

Not unless we do an announcement in the respective subforum. We can spice it up with a Redux CD-key for the best player if we can get our hands on any spares.

I remember playing a bit of this as a Starcraft 2 custom game. Interesting premise, though I feel like a lot of the fun is lost in the anonymity of the internet. Still, I'd be down to give it a shot if somebody else is going to be setting this all up.

  6. Actually anonymity doesn't really subtract from the experience. I've played it both ways and I can vouch that when players are assigned fresh characters with no connection to their main accounts and start working from there the game becomes much more entertaining. Much better than writing one's own -=XDESTROYER99X=- with a generic Master Chief avatar into the story anyway.

That and the cast reveal at the end is always a thing to look forward to.

I assume I'll be doing the coordination, at least this time, so we've got that covered. Besides, most of the story will be done by players themselves.

This used to be really popular when I was a kid (the real-life version where people have to close their eyes and so on), but I didn't know it came from the USSR. I've never seen it played out online though. An interesting idea, but I don't think I'll join - at least not now.

  11. Aw, man, you haven't been very active lately. Is everything okay?

I'm ok-ish, I just don't have as much free time lately due to college and other things. :)

  13. That "colledge and things" meant people are pretty much as well as dead in 100% of cases :(

I'd be willing to play as well.

As for spicing it up I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to convince our super top secret contact known only as the mysterious "Pew" to "Borrow" one of his "Keys" as I'm sure you've already arranged. ;)
