I am a old school gamer and I am currently playing FFXIV. And I am looking for a new game, whats so special about this game that would make me want to switch from FFXIV?

P.S. When I say old school I have been gaming since 1984 and I have been playing mmorpgs since 1999!

I haven't tried it yet either, but I've been watching a few videos and a couple of streams and it seems like there are a ton of different skills you can level, just about anything you do has a skill associated with it, give that system a look and see if it tickles your fancy :)

You might either hate it or love it. It's still new and has many bugs.

    Pros:
    - ability to form player driven economies, specific to player-built cities
    - ability to form player created governments, laws, judiciary system, enforcements
    - ability to build your own house, farm, breed animals, fund economy, establish trade
    - ability to become a pirate, mercenary and steal stuff
    - ability to raid other cities, take them over, etc
    - open world, lots of different ways to level up, explore, etc

    Cons:
    - tons of gold spammers
    - tons of bugs
    - not many plots
    - too many things to do can overwhelm your perception of the game
    - a lot of self-entitled whiners at the forums
    - have to be a paying Patron to pay taxes on plots which protect your plots from griefing

To be honest, you really should give it a try yourself, it's free and you don't have much to lose. It's a very relaxing game and you're open to do what you want, you don't have to go grind or quest, you could just level through fishing or farming, it's all up to you.

Hi! I'm also really interested in trying out ArcheAge. I have it downloaded and installed already, I just haven't found the time to start playing it. The 'pros' that you've listed are really good, I just worry about committing the time / money to a game to find out that it's not really for me.

Would I be able to participating in the governments, laws, judiciary, etc...as a F2P player be able to participate in that system or are those features for the paid players.

The player participation is solely based how the guild is set up. So whether you are a free to play or premium player, you should be able to contribute to how the guild runs. Eventually when the guild gets powerful enough, they can build a castle which can be customized in terms of layout and overall look. A castle has many other benefits as well. You can read up on it here: http://archeage.gamepedia.com/Castles

Also, here's the justice system: http://archeage.gamepedia.com/Justice_System
