If this game takes off do you think a sequel may be in order? It's a pretty new franchise and if the game gets mainstream then.. why not?
Leeeet's wait for the first one to come out and see how well it does. I think there's too much emphasis on universe building these days, whether in video games or movies or TV or books. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a sprawling mythology, but media company execs are constantly grasping for the possibility of sequels, to the point that I think they stop looking at the immediate concern - namely, the initial product they haven't even finished yet. I'm tired of watching and playing things that are meant to be precursors for the next in the line of products. Give me a finished story, dammit! Planning for the future is good. Planning for the future before the present is even a sure thing? Stupid.
Sequels are almost never as good as the original. Originality is always the best way to go. Having said that, with anything involving the high-tech, high-action World of Clancy, theres already an established fan-base who love the feel of this game, if it is a success then I'd be more than happy to see sequels to it, as long as they aren't just add-ons with little real effort put into them, merely there to pump more money out of an established brand. I think its early days for talk of sequels just yet, but if the games a success then lets face it, sequels are likely to happen anyway, I just hope that they won't be a disappointment.
I somewhat disagree with this. I find that with a good developer, a sequel will take everything that didn't work and remove/tweak it and enhance/focus on what did work. For example, Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City - both of the sequels were much, much better games than the original, in my opinion (especially AC2). Also, @FuZyOn, I'm digging your enthusiasm!
This game sounds like the kind of videogame that will go on for at least a couple of years with continuous updates and expansions. It's an MMO after all. Maybe they'll do a sequel if the player base begins to go down but the game sold well enough to justify it.
Haha, thanks! Honestly, I truly love Ubisoft and their games. I grew up playing all their titles. I remember coming back from school and jumping straight to finish my Prince of Persia missions, and more recently I used to play Assassin's Creed daily. I'm trying to be as cheerful as possible!
I'm not sure, it isn't unheard of for a MMO to get a sequel.. Some sequels even change genres. The thing right now is, it's way too soon to judge anything about this MMO though. However I have to agree that planning a sequel when the game before it hasn't even launched yet is arguably a dumb move. Ubisoft has done a great job on basically all of their games so we really have no idea where it could go from here.
That's 99% sure. If the game succeeds in sales and ratings it would definitely spawn a sequel. Knowing how Ubisoft milked the crap out of Assassin's Creed, it would probably do the same thing with this game. But since this is an MMO it's probably not going to be a 'squeal' but more like an expansion pack or a mission pack.
Yes I see your point, there will always be exceptions to the rule, Batman, and of course Assassins Creed are both excellent examples of that. I lost about a year playing the excellent AC2 which was undoubtably far superior to the original. Its great when the developers do use a sequel as an opportunity to improve a gaming experience with the benefit of the feedback from the first in the series, but they so often don't seem to use that opportunity very well, instead just cashing in on the brand without making anything new or innovative about the sequel. I could name a few more sequels which were at least as good as, if not better than the original, but theres far more sequels I could name that have been so shoddy, that they couldn't even have used them for DLC on the original.
It has the potential for a sequel, seeing as the universe it's set in has a lot of things not yet explored. I suppose if it actually gets a sequel or not depends on if people think the game is worthwhile.
Well if it turns out to be a gold mine then it's pretty sure. Besides, the game has some serious potential judging from the demos and so far Ubisoft has been doing a good job maintaining sequels after sequels of games that don't necessarily need anymore sequels. But I think this is going to be more like an expansion or new mission pack or something like an update every now and then and not a complete sequel not unless the game has reached it's limit in terms of the technical things involved.
It's going to be a sure ball that this game would get a sequel (or an expansion pack or something) if this game takes off. Also since Ubisoft is pretty much a game franchise machine at this point it's going to be a shock if they didn't make a sequel if the game is highly successful.
If it does well I'm pretty sure there will be a sequel for it. That said, it's way too early to be thinking about sequels at this point. Hopefully it'll be a great game that warrants a sequel though.
If they do make a sequel, it would be interesting to see which city they'd choose to recreate. New York City looks so amazing, we'd get to "visit" another place in the world. I'd like a European city personally, I can think of a few that would lend itself well to this kind of scenario.
That actually wouldn't be so bad. You can't really fault the locations from Assassin's Creed in my opinion; they've all been pretty sweet looking and somewhat diverse. The first thing you usually hear regarding a new AC game is "where will it be located", the reason being that every location so far has been pretty outstanding.
I feel like games like The Division can't really have sequels. Judging from the path they're taking the game to, there'll be barely any story (I mean yes there'll be story, but it'll be bad) and making a sequel would be really hard. If anything, they're most likely gonna recreate the first game, then throw in some extra weapons and maybe upgrade the graphics a little bit and call it a day.. which would make the sequel more like an expansion pack rather than an actual standalone sequel.
@Delirium in a way that makes it easier to have a sequel. There's a good premise to the Division, but by keeping it light on the story, you can easily make a sequel, prequel, concurrent adventure, etc.
It definitely could get a sequel. If the gameplay is really good and enough people enjoy it, I could see it happening. The game already looks great so hopefully it lives up to its expectations.
