What do you guys think of the settlement system? do you think it will be a hit or miss? I like it a lot, in fact, I think it will be the main mechanic I will use. Setting up a camp and exploring is what I like to do in the games, and this mechanic sets it up perfectly! thoughts?

It sounds like a decent idea at worst. I don't think it will be a bad feature. Then again, I don't think I'll spend too much time with it, if I can avoid doing so.

Always a fan of being able to influence the game world and this is just another way to do it. In this case though, everything depends on how it's going to be implemented. I'm a fan of user-friendly solutions, but wouldn't a simplified system be very limiting?

I enjoy games, until they become a chore of constant upkeep. Always having to go back and repair over and over, I get bored fast. Hmm, Maybe make a sweet settlement and raid it myself.

I would say the settlement feature is a nice aspect to grow a personal connection between the player and the game. From demo videos it seems these settlements are restricted to small sections designated purely for this. If these sections are small and restrictive I will be sad but I have high hopes as Bethesda always seem to impress.

There were several mods out there that let you do this in Fallout 3 and New Vegas as well, and I think Bethesda finally got the clue that we like to build stuff. Building a whole town will be extremely cool in this game, in my opinion. :D

Yup! it gives you an attachment to the game, and you feel like you have to go back to see your stuff is okay! It's a great idea.

I am rather certain it will not be long from release until someone lures a few people into their house and replaces the door with a window. Especially with Bethesda's iconic sense of dark humor and the wide range of Fallout fans.

I like the way you think!! Imagine a "town" you built. Each "house" containing a different character, maybe that pretty woman that turned you down. Perhaps that super mutant that thought he was stronger than you. You can walk the streets looking at your new pets, your own zoo!

I like the idea of making your own settlement, but I know my ADD self will get hit with a case of wanderlust and I'll spend more time in the wasteland looking for goodies to plunder to feed my klepto tendencies than take care of the place. Now if they give incentives such as quests, extra items and events in the game, then I can be more invested in managing it...

I think it's a great way to make the game more immersive. It's going to be cool finding your first settlement at a late stage of the game and exploring it again will sure be fun!

It will make the player feel like he has much more impact on the world, hopefully you can actually have more than one settlement, not sure on that one.

I'm a big fan of base building games so settlement building is definitely something I would have fun with. It would be interesting if they added more survival game like features such as food and water. Then having things like farms in your settlement would be a bigger deal.

That would be a cool concept... more of a DayZ feel survival element.

Creating cities in multiplayer with your friends. recruiting, and raging war on your friends cities. Think of that cool Idea!xD

I feel like a settlement would fit better as a storage area, and general place to keep loot, upgrade weapons and interact with NPCs.

That's actually an interesting idea. There could be some online integration with these settlements, where you can find your friends settlements out in the field. Would be a cool way to implement online interaction without having to have full-on multiplayer.

That's more than likely how I will treat my settlement, if I decide to have one built. I'm not going to care too much about NPCs unless they have meaningful personalities...or give me free stuff:D

I'm really looking forward to the settlement system. I'm a big fan of sandbox games like Minecraft and Terraria, where you can build how you see fit. It looks like they are drawing a bit of inspiration for their power system from Minecraft's red stone system, which I think has a ton of potential. Should be fun.

It looks incredible, I am totally pumped for it. I loved terraria to bits. And now I feel like I have more impact on the game.

Maybe the ability to create a clan system, and have a way to "officially" declare war, trades, and other things.
