Should I start playing WOW? I know nobody who plays it.

Basically whats in the title. I have never played WOW. I don't have any friends who have played it so I have never really had a push to try it. So is it worth it knowing no-one? Do I have to get all of the expansion packs at first, or should I just get a base game? Thanks!

You should definitely start playing the game, even without knowing anyone it is tons of fun. The thing about the game is that you can start out knowing no one and meet people as you go along the way. When I started out I was much like you in the fact that I didn't know anyone, but I met a few people along the way with whom I regularly do raids with now.

How easy is it to join a guild or group on there? I don't know if I'd have enough time to get really good quickly. This is relevant because if it is hard to join these groups, I'd probably quit after a month or two of only playing alone.

It really depends on what you want out of the game. Casual guilds are somewhat easy to join, I joined one because I met a player in the game who invited me to it. The elite guilds are another story though, it takes a lot of skill and you have to pass a few tests to join those.
You seem more like a casual player to me though, so I think you wouldn't have much of a hard time joining one of the more casual guilds.

Back when I actively played it was easy to get invited to a more casual group. You just played a while, learned what you needed to learn to be decently capable, went hunting with a few people at random, and eventually you met up with someone who thought you were decent enough to invite.

Of course, some guilds took it far more seriously, but I tended to avoid them. I liked to play, not play politics or have someone think they had a right to tell me how to spend my game time. I tended to play in small groups or solo more often than I had a character join even a casual guild.

I keep seeing a commercial of WoW on the television. I think they released a new version of World of Warcraft, so maybe you can try checking it out. I'll have to think about trying it because I don't have the money for it right now!

Ok thanks. Ya, it sounds like I'd want to go for a casual guild. I say that before I've played haha. Who knows, maybe one day you'll see me with the elites :p

You'll more than likely make new friends within the game right away, so it's not a problem that none of your friends play the game currently. It's a pretty fun game, even though it's been around for what seems like forever.

You can try out the trial until level 20, I recommend doing that, it's a bunch of fun. Choose whatever is interesting as your race and class, if you get serious look at what racials are the best for your class. I recommend playing on a medium-low pop server.

From personal experience usually friends from real life tend to drop off even if you all play together. Generally things like family, school and or work digs into their schedules. However that shouldn't stop you from playing the game if you want. It all depends on what you want out of it. Some people just play for PvP and others play for the raids. Generally do some research on the server populations before you join because depending on what faction you choose, you don't want to be on a server where you're in the least common denominator because you have a higher chance of getting ganked/camped.

As for guilds and finding friends in the game, it takes a little bit- but the looking for guild feature has made it easier. There's options you can choose and the game will provide you with a list of guilds that fit your options.

It's not a bad time to start playing WoW for someone who has never played it. The subscriptions have surged once again and the game is looking in better shape than ever. If you don't know anyone who plays it, you soon will make some great online friends over there.

With the new television advertised the other day, I think more people will start joining into the World of Warcraft franchise. In my opinion, it's never a bad time to start and with all the promotions coming out, I doubt that nobody plays it. There will always be people playing it.

Oh, that is actually something that I hadn't thought of. Of course, the subscriptions will be going up. They are advertising like crazy right now. In fact, I actually have a WoW advertisement on one of my screens. It shouldn't be too hard to find some newbies to play with.

The game is beautiful to play both with friends or simply casually as it is. In addition, you should be able to enjoy it immensely with the base game before deciding to get most of the upgrades. At least, that's how I've come to understand that.

Well, if you like grinding, killing shit and looting then WoW is for you. However, I strongly suggest that you find a couple of friends to play with as usually playing alone gets pretty boring after awhile. But, don't get too addicted to the game, and always be sure to take 10 minute breaks every hour.

Now is a good time to start playing WoW, you can either get a new character or get a boos to level 90, in either case, you will find some people to play with soon enough.
Just don't get discouraged by a few bad seeds, the general community is pretty sociable.

Personally I was in your shoes not that long ago. I was iffy on starting WoW and I had done the level 20 a while back. I had the game but no game time so I was like what the hell. Do it and join this community! Find a guild that is not really hardcore so you can chill and have friends to play with. They will most likely help you out if you need it so make some friends.

TL;DR Do it and join it!

WoW is a great experience as long as you don't get too addicted to it.

In every game I play i pick up friends in game. I also have the experience of taking friends in one game and playing with them in another game as well. It is not always easy to start a new game soloing, but with good game play you will start picking up friends who may have played with you likes your style and want to continue to play in the future. Making game friends is easy especially if you are a good gamer.
