Can anyone recommend some single player console RPG's that could rival PC MMORPG games? The Borderlands, Elder Scrolls, and Darksiders 2 is really all I have been able to find. I don't know if I would even consider Darkisders 2 to be comparable but the game world is vast when it comes to exploration which I like. Ps3, Psp, or Xbox 360 please haven't gotten any of the next gen systems yet waiting at least a year for the kinks to be worked out.

Skyrim is great. I haven't played it on a console but on PC it is just awesome. I can't remember a game that I liked more. The world and graphics are just so beautiful and the gameplay is amazing.

Anything in the Elder Scrolls series is a good game. Terraria is sort of an RPG and the world is huge.

I've already mentioned having played the Elder Scrolls games and Terraria isn't really the same type of game. I haven't tried it though so I can't say that for sure but don't want to play a 2d game anyway. I'd love some recommendations of games that I have not already listed though. Terraria and minecraft just would not be for me though. I'm hoping that Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns has more exploration than the previous two in the series did.

I don't thing their is a MMO that is meant to be played alone that is basically what RPG's are for.

I'm not looking for an MMO, I even gave examples of the type of games I would like. It's almost as if you read the title and that's all nothing else after that. I was able to find another in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning though which should keep me busy for a little while. I would like more suggestions though I don't like multiplayer on consoles which is why I asked for single player equivalents.

Even though it's an older game, I recommend Final Fantasy XII. It has a lot of the features that are similar to MMORPG's and has a really deep battle system. I'm hoping that Square decides to release an HD remake of the game sometime in the near future. You could just buy a cheap used PS2 to play the game because there's a lot of other great RPG's on that system as well.

I thought Final Fantasy XII was online only or was that XI? I have an old PS2 around somewhere so I will definitely have to check that one out. I own most of the others on PSN already as well so it would be a good addition to the collection.

The first Diablo was good in single player. The second one I played only online on Battle.net east. I haven't tried the third one yet but it seems like it could be good in single player.

Unfortunately, Diablo 3 must be connected to Battle.net to even play singleplayer. There really is no reason to play single player considering you can just solo with your online character.

I think what comes closer to an MMO is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, other than that you should check out Skyrim.
Although I get what you mean, you can't really use the term MMO since it stands for massively MULTIPLAYER online :) so you are just looking for RPG's.

Ok what I meant when I said "rival" originally was rivaling in scope because I do not want the multiplayer aspect of it. I already played both of those games as well. Both are fantastic games but I have already played both.

The console version doesn't need to be online but the PC version does.

If you are OK with sci-fi settings instead of fantasy you can try the Mass Effect series.

If you're on Xbox I reckon you can try Mass Effect or Dragon's Dogma. Dragon's Dogma is a very good RPG, Dark Souls is also a must play if you're in for the challenge, in some way Dark Souls also has online elements in it.
