Smart/useful structures

    Hey all again.
    I'm really enjoying my stay at this forum. The community is so friendly!
    Anyway,
    I'd like to hear some "smart structures" from you guys, buildable in the vanilla version.
    I'll start with the ones I know, so you guys get a better understanding of what things I want to hear.

    Cobblestone Farm
    A structure with water on one side and lava on the other. Those two will make stone which will turn into cobblestone after you mine it. Beware: Leave some space, otherwise you'll ruin the lava source and make a block of obsidian.

    Automatic harvester
    Made with pistons or water to remove all the crops if your farm can be harvested. Search on Google to know more about this since it's a bit harder.

    Elevator
    Make an elevator with signs and water. Search on Google how to make this structure since this one is hard to make too.

    Well, thanks for those! I really should add a cobblestone generator and an elevator to my survival world. I'm pretty sure that they would be quite useful! Did you ever think of an infinite water source as a structure?

    Yes I did. I left it out because I thought it was common knowledge. You can also have a "flint farm" by placing just a couple of gravel blocks and mining them and placing them again.

    I've made an elevator once but they're too big and look ugly, in my opinion also, there's nothing better than old fashioned staircases

    You're right, I never use the elevator although it is a smart and useful structure. I don't want to think about running stairs equal of 20 stages.

    Stairs aren't too bad really and it would be stupid to make them too high so it doesn't take too much time climbing them

    With the new slimeblocks added into the snapshots, minecraft becomes a whole new game. Here is one of the examples of magnificent slimeblock engineering.

    The infinite Water well. So if you can get four buckets of water together, you have all the water you need Though I suppose that is a structure in a way, sure saved me a trip when living in the desert.

    Gold farm, On the server i play on enderman farms dont work, So we use Pigman farms. Big portals that generate pigman we can then kill for gold and exp. A must have on servers/singleplayer

    The structure that has been the most beneficial to me so far is a mob spawner/exp farm, as it allowed me to gain exp easily without having the risk of dying from fighting full-healthed mobs in the open. It is also real simple to make and requires only a pickaxe and some water to build it underground. What I like about it most is that the xp farm gathers all the mobs in one convenient location for killing in a safe environment.
