So I'm considering putting together a gaming rig...

I'd like some opinions since most of you are PC gamers. I'm a console player so I'm out of touch with tech nowadays. My favorite games are FPS games (obviously), but my go-to game is BF3 so I would like for this computer to be ready for BF4--as well as anything else I'm going to throw at it for awhile.

Highly reccomend getting at least a GTX 680 or the new 780 if you can spend the extra 150$ it will be worth it.

you could get a mid or high end I7 to go with it and you will be in business.

grab 8-16 gig of DDR3 ram. get a fast ram set (2000mhz+)

you will want a nice power supply to go with it so get a 750+ watt PSU, more wattage then that if you plan to go SLI with the 780. get 1000+ watt PSU for SLI.

Regardless of what other parts you choose, I highly recommend going with an Intel i5 or i7 CPU over an AMD one. Don't get fooled by the larger numbers - Intel generally makes better CPUs and the stuff from the high end of the i7 range is the cream of the crop. A decent i5 is more than good enough for high-end gaming anyway. AMD processors are more hit or miss and you usually have to overclock them if you want them to reach their Intel equivalents in performance. If you have the money for it, an i5 3770K (or even better: an i7 3770K) would be beast.

As for the graphics card, a GTX 680 - backed up by a strong CPU and at least 8GB of RAM - should handle pretty much anything you throw at it on max settings, as long as you don't plan to play on anything above 1080p or in 3D. Even then it would still be decent, but the frame rate would drop considerably. If you plan to game in 720p, then a GTX 680 is overkill. It would last you for a good few years.

Ram clocks hardly matter. That is the general consensus if you look it up. Better is it to grab 12 gigs of 1600 Mhz RAM than 8 Gigs of 2133 Mhz. It's not like I have personal experience, though.

It's not necessary to have the latest graphics card, nor the latest cpu to run bf3 or bf4.

I would suggest you make a better research and ask on better forums (forums about pc's etc) So you can get a good gaming pc, but also save some money.

I DYI all my rigs and preach one piece of advice...despite your hardware preferences, allow plenty of breathing room for reliable cooling ! Investing in ( or obtaining ) a driver updating program can also save you some hassles with new gear/software.

Oh, and shop around - hardware prices are dropping more very day :)

he is right though, much 2000+ will do nothing for gaming in general right now. 1866 is all you need at MAX.
