So who else is super excited for the FF7 Remake?

Here is the trailer from E3 this year:

It looks really nice! I would love a graphical update, but I'm worried they might change too much in the game.

How do you feel about it? What are some important things that you think SHOULD be changed and what are some things you think SHOULD NOT be changed?

I certainly hope they don't get rid of the part where Cloud has to infiltrate Don Corneo's mansion ;)

I am extremely excited. When I watched the PS 4 presentation, I wasn't hoping for a Squar Enix announcement and then this came up. I literally jumped out of my seat.
One thing that was already confirmed is that the combat will be changed and it will be inspired by Advent Children.

I actually like this change as I've only finished FF VII for the first time a few months ago, and the combat system felt really dated. I think lots of other stuff will also have to change because some stuff that was ok back then may not be considered Ok today. For example, Cloud beating up Aerith under Sephiroth's influence, and the scene where clouds can kiss the dragon or the king instead of Aeris during the play would also be weird in HD :p

Hey to be fair I would love that play in HD it would be HILARIOUS! Anyway, yes there are some adult themes in the game, but it was essential to the plot. I think if they water it down to try and be more "politically correct" It will have serious consequences on the game itself.

Spolier Alert for anyone crazy enough to be in this thread without ever playing the game:

You do realise the place I mentioned in the first post is a brothel, right? Also the scene when cloud gets in the hot tub with all the muscly guys? Aeris being stabbed by Sepiroth? Numerous people being shot to death? The scene where they attempt to murder Tifa via gas? That's just a few of the things off the top of my head!

Man this is awesome. The graphics are insane! I still think that they need to remake the earlier games that were on the Nintendo platform. Those are still the best ones out of the series of games.

I'm not that excited for it but I think it's really cool! I always wanted to play Final Fantasy in HD and this remake seems pretty decent so far.

I am not too hyped since I never really liked FF7 all that much anyway, but I still wanna see how it works out. At least, the translation issues will be fixed so it should be a much more enjoyable experience. I just hope they don't screw too much with the gameplay systems...

Hmmm... I am being cautiously optimistic for this remake. The trailers and screenshots like great, but I wonder how much Square Enix will change up the gameplay and game flow...

I'm not super hyped per say. It's just that it's a no brainer that they should have come out with a remake considering its popularity. Not only that but it would reintroduce the game to a new generation of players who are more fickle about graphics than my generation. I'm glad that it's now happening since it needed to be done.

I am definitely super hyped, because I missed out on FF VII and have played it only a little bit on the PS. If they can make a proper HD remake, it would be totally cool and I would buy and play it for sure.

Yeah, that's exactly the thing. They already said it won't be exactly the same game and that there will be changes to gameplay, right? I hope they don't screw it up!

Count me in! I have been clamoring for a remake of FF7 with this level of graphic even since Advent Children. The gameplay from what I can see is similar to FFXV, so it would be interesting to see how FFXV plays out. I'm more concerned about how much Square Enix will charge for the game though...

Of course I'm in! Final Fantasy VII was an amazing game at the time and it still is if you don't mind the fact that it's almost 20 years old. The remake seems like its own thing so the original is still a must play in my opinion. :p

Super excited! Despite confirming that the turn-based battle system is gone and being disappointed about it, I'm still looking forward to the game and I'm glad this even exists.

Well that's not completely true. They said that it's not an action game either. They also said that it's more tactical than Kingdom Hearts. And the original FFVII wasn't a true turn based game, it had an active time battle system so turns are not always in a specific and timely order. So I don't really get what you want from this game since not even the original had that thing you're mentioning. Unless what you want is FFX because that game did have a turn based battle system, for example.

I think they're still trying to strike a balance between the spectacle fighting and the tactical approach. The videos they showed are VERY unclear about how the game is supposed to play, so it's impossible to judge the combat based on those clips or what the developers are saying since they're not very clear either to be fair (well they ARE still making the game so things tend to change). It seems like an ATB bar is still there, so I think there's still some kind of system in place that says when it's your turn to attack or not.

I am since I didn't play the original but heard good things about it.

I'm less hyped now that I know it's going to be episodic. It doesn't really need to be episodic for any reason other than they want to make more money. I know Square Enix has justified splitting the story up by saying that they want to do justice to the plot line as a whole, but it's not that long a game. It's like saying The Hobbit needed to be split up into three movies in order to give viewers a more complete experience. No.

Still, I'll give it a try. Hopefully the episodes aren't going to be super expensive. I'm kind of glad they're pushing it towards a more action-RPG system - at least the change will be prominent enough to make me want to try it out again.

The episodic part is milking the cash cow- you're right that it doesn't need to be drawn out like that. The spin off games and anime/movies have already filled in the majority of the universe and backstories for characters.

My assumption is that they partly found the prospect of reintroducing an overworld too daunting to make work properly. Squeenix has this weird obsession with moving away from some of the older stuff that just plain worked and making their newer games more 'realistic', if any Final Fantasy can be said to be realistic. Who cares if it's a big character on a shrunken map between locations? None of your players do. You don't need to fill in every detail of the overworld.

I'd argue that the overworld worked at the time due to data constraints and most of the cities and areas were instanced and the overworld served as exploration in a creative way with the limitations of the era. If you notice with the advent of PS2 and the release of FF10 Square moved away from overworld to a more connected filled in maps so to speak. My issue with Square these days is the linear-ness of their games. There's hardly any exploration anymore and that's something that really needs to come back.

I think that the Final Fantasy VII remake looks amazing. The graphics are an extreme upgrade from its PS1 counterpart. The gameplay looks good, and makes sense for this current generation of gaming. I do wonder about the episodic approach to the story. What will be cut from the story? Still, even that kind of makes sense. No RPGs nowadays come out in several discs. Overall, I think we just have to wait and see, but it looks promising.
