I haven't heard anything about the soundtrack of the game. The atmosphere isn't anything without some good background music, it really sets up the "mood" of the game. I imagine some Two Steps From Hell-esque music will be present.
I'm not so sure about this one since Ubisoft, at least for most of the games I've played from them, rely on atmospheric and actual theatrical music for the mood and overall experience. Although I have to say, I think The Division would also benefit from licensed music, not really in a radio kind of way like GTA but more of a 'in the moment' type of thing, kinda like when a fight scene is about to begin and 'Eye of the Tiger' starts to play. But I think it's going to be more of the same orchestral type of ambient music.
If it's anything like their other IPs, it'll be awesome. I'm not worried about the soundtrack at all, as far as I'm concerned their track record (no pun intended) is impeccable. I'm still singing shanties from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Yeah it's probably going to be more like the orchestral music from previous Ubisoft games. I doubt they would use licensed music for the game, not unless it's like an ending theme or something. Although if the game has like a radio or something it would be a welcome addition.
That pun was so intended, don't even try to hide it! If the soundtrack will be even relatively close to the one on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag I'm sold.
Does Ubisoft even use actual radio music for their games? I've never played a lot of games from Ubisoft but so far the ones I have doesn't really have licensed music, most of them are instrumentals and classical pieces. Besides, judging by the tone of the game I say it's probably going to be more in lines of Rainbow Six or Splinter Cell when it comes to the music.
I can't recall a game where they used radio music. I don't think Watch_Dogs had licensed music, and that's the one game that I know takes place when licensed music would work. The Assassin's Creed games take place mostly in the past and such, so there have been shanties and orchestra music but sadly my assassin hasn't been rocking to Taylor Swift while pirating the seven seas.
Yeah, I was thinking GTA or Saints Row had the best use of "real" radio music, in my opinion. It made all of that driving around a lot more bearable for sure. A game like The Division, I'd want something more atmospheric and in the background.
I wouldn't worry too much about the soundtrack. Despite all its shortcomings Ubisoft usually has great music on their games. I'm sure the soundtrack on The Division will be decent at the very least.
Agreed, the music really does set the atmosphere of the game. I'd like to hear what they've come up with. I don't doubt the soundtrack will be great. I'm looking forward to seeing it tie in with the gameplay.
I'm expecting a great soundtrack. as in the other games from Ubisoft, like Assassins Creed, all the games have an incredible passive and action sound track , I think that the game will be good on the sound side xD
The composer for The Division is Ola Strandh. You can check out all about the music in the game in this behind-the-scenes video released by Ubisoft themselves:
I don't care much about it to be honest. When I play games I always listen to my own music (from iTunes). I mean the soundtrack is probably great, and yes it almost always set the moods for games, but they get repetitive after a while and sometimes it gets to the point where it becomes taxing to listen to them, especially if you keep failing at a certain level, stage, dungeon or whatever.
