I find myself strip mining a lot recently. I don't mine a lot, but when I do I use the strip mining method. I haven't come across a situation where I was mined right into lava yet (thank god), but it's bound to happen sometime, especially with a lot of really expensive equipment on board.

Do you think it's a good idea to strip mine? Do you find yourself mining straight into lava most of the time?

I don't really like strip mining, but I prefer quarry mining. Quarry mining is where you designate an area to be completely leveled to bedrock; digging and mining every single layer until you reach the bottom. I like quarry mining because I am able to receive plenty of resources which can fund my mining projects.

Strip mining is also extremely dangerous! I can imagine why you nearly fell into lava. If you are going to proceed with strip mining, make sure you bring a bucket of water or two!

I agree with Rgrimes about strip mining being dangerous. Until I figured out quarry mining, I always tried strip mining and most of the time would fall right into lava o_O

I will stick to the quarries. Having hot lava take you out is just no fun.

I don't really give any real thoughts to how I mine, but I would advise against strip mining.

Nah, I don't usually bother with strip mining. I just go into caves and find most of what I need, although on my old survival world I had the biggest strip mine I've ever seen (I can upload screenshots if you like, I still play the world sometimes)

Strip mines are amazing. Combined with a enchanted pick, you'll be drowning in diamonds. Lava is a nuisance, but if you're careful it won't kill you or ruin anything. It allows the most coverage of an area with the least amount of mining.

I mostly do quarry mining, but strip mining is just very cool, seeing a mountain be turned into flat land with just a pickaxe is very cool. I prefer quarry mining though, because it is nice, easy, and simple to do, except when you run into things like caves. Anyway, I find that quarry mining gets me a lot of resources in a very short amount of time so I do that instead.

Strip mining is kind of pointless because most of the good stuff is usually below ground level. I like to find a cave, and then start a quarry there.

This is the one thing that is kind of bad about strip mining, mostly you get tons of cobble and coal, but you don't get the good stuff which you really need such as diamonds or gold, you might get a bit of iron though. I prefer quarry mining for this reason also, because you eventually get to the good stuff far below ground.

I personally recommended quarry mining over strip mining. I find strip mining fairly messy and dangerous. Quarry mining is definitely the way to go if you want to be safe and rich! Strip mining is fast, but it is dangerous and won't get you much stuff. Bring a bucket of water if you strip mine to get rid of the lava. Good luck finding diamonds out there!

I tend to strip mine, as it's easy to organize, and it's quite efficient to do also.

Yeah I totally agree. The method I use is totally the way to go. If not that, quarries are just so much better. ;)

Well of course it is dangerous, but that is the fun of Minecraft! I usually don't use the method of Strip mining, but I hear it is a good way. I just mine down to bed rock and then branch my way out that way, It works for me. I have come across lava a few times, but a good miner always has a bucket of water at hand.

Strip mining is fine and you shouldn't be killed by lava as long as you're intelligent enough about the risks of doing it. However, strip mining all the time easily gets boring and too tedious. For me, I just find a cave to mine ores from whenever I mine. It's a lot safer and funner than digging a straight hole.

Just don't get distracted while you are doing it. I can not tell you how many times I'v been killed by lava because I was careless.

Strip mining is for new starts or when you move your location with just a few resources. Slowly change to quarry mining whenever you have enough cobblestone to build stairs and such so you can go deeper with the mining.

I just dig however suits my fancy, although I tend to stick with quarries instead of full-on strip mining.

I just use quarry mining instead of strip mining, but when I get desperate, occasionally I'll do a little bit of strip mining.
