If you could add a mob to the game that is only found underground what would it be?

    Some of my own ideas:

Giant Ants - A similar concept to the giant spider but they would only spawn underground. Ant nests could be found with a ant spawner in it. They can walk on ceilings and are hostile to players.

Trog - a humanoid creature about the same size as a zombie kid, but not as fast. They throw rocks at the player when provoked. Sometimes you find their small mushroom farms.

Blind Newts - harmless. Found swimming in underground pools.

Cave Wurm - found rarely and always near bedrock. Cave Wurms are long and snake-like but move about on many legs. They spit poison at the player and are a challenge to kill.

Cave Wurms sound really cool. Almost reminds of the Sand Worms from Dune if you've ever read that. I could see myself harmlessly exploring underground, when a Cave Wurm comes crashing out of nowhere. That would be a great experience in my eyes.

Yes, I am familiar with the sand worms from Dune! Those are rather bigger than I was imagining but now you have put the idea in my head that there should be something along those lines for a mob special to deserts. It would be pretty intense to have something explode out of the sand and attack you! If I had any java skills I would make a mod for exactly that.

I like the Cave Worm idea. They should vary in size though and have a 'Queen'. Maybe.. Not sure.

Anyway, I always wanted very scary things underground. The deeper you go, the scarier they get. At the lowest depths of the MC landscape are these tentacled creatures with a jet black shell. They resemble octopi, except they exist out of water. They are attracted to diamonds and lava are their main source of food. When it becomes hostile, it will slither along the ground or on the walls and ceiling, sometimes dangling, hoping to snatch up unknowing adventurers. They can attack with their tentacles or if you're too far away, spit blobs of lava at you. In very rare cases, you may find them above ground at night. Once you shine light on it, it will try to find the nearest cave and slither back into it.

I love the idea of your mob avoiding the light. That would be an excellent feature for an underground mob. They could scuttle around at the edge of the light seeking a way past it to reach you rather like a Creeper avoiding a cat.

I want centipedes. For some reason, I've never seen centipedes being in a game before. I think it'd be great idea to have them in Minecraft. I don't know why people are so obsessed with spiders in games.

Giant spiders are pretty done to death it seems. Minecraft has not one but two types, now that I think about it! They had a chance to make a new original mob for the mines and wasted it.

I kind of laughed when you said you'd never seen a centipede in a video game before because I immediately thought of the arcade game Centipede ;)

I would like dragons to roam throughout the game world. It would be cool if they were really rare. That mob wouldn't even be hard to make because there's already a dragon in the game. I would love to ride a dragon around a mushroom biome. That's the dream man, that's the dream.

I would probably would like to add some kind of vampire mob, simply because it fits the whole underground scene. Mojang could even add the feature to their existing bat mob, since they currently show no purpose. There should also be some kind of lava worm, giving an added danger to underground lava pools, where there is a chance of it jumping out at you if you walk by.

It may have been before you started playing Minecraft, but there were some screenshots released of a Red Dragon in the Overworld. Players got really excited hoping that it would be added in a future release, but, alas, it was not.

I feel like I'm not super creative, because I can't think of anything half as cool as all of these! I really like the cave wurm idea, I think it could add an interesting aspect to the game.

Definitely goblins. It would be cool to have underground fortresses crawling with goblins. They could all have torches and swords.

Nothing like digging and then suddenly finding yourself face to face with a Cave Worm. That would be awesome. The Ant idea was cool too.

This definitely isn't adding a mob but improving one, the bats! Bats should be implemented with an AI, they are currently just annoying little creatures flying around annoying me when I'm mining! How about trying to add a feature where bats can attack you?

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully we can get those in desert some time. Or perhaps there is a mod for it.

I could go for some hostile worms in Minecraft. That sounds interesting enough.

I think having underground mobs would be a pretty cool idea. Maybe the bats could change into vampires and become hostile once they do!

Cave worm would be nice and cool. Underground worms suddenly pop out of the ground would be exciting.
