I wanted to create this thread to hear some interesting and cool views on how physics in Minecraft should be. Got suggestions to revamp the physics system in minecraft? Or just want the plain old minecraft physics that are simple, yet does its job, or are you looking for no physics at all? Share your thought with me!

The only thing that I would change about the physics in Minecraft would be the trees. I think it would be pretty cool if when we chopped down a lower section of the tree trunk, the rest of the tree would fall too and eventually hit the ground. But when the leaves hit the ground they would scatter and disappear into maybe seedlings and apples. It doesn't bother me too much though, it is just quite ugly to leave a partial tree behind and time consuming to try to jump upwards and destroy the rest of what is left behind.

I don't really think that Minecraft physics will be changed. I mean, I like the way it currently is. I really don't want Minecraft's identity to be changed by changing it's physics. It just won't be Minecraft anymore, you know what I mean?

It wont be changed. as its perfect the way it is. And I also have to agree with Azurix that the minecraft trees should act like the mods: Timber etc. Its just way more realistic

While the trees are a problem, I really dislike the way water works. It just seems really unrealistic how you're able to put an unlimited source of water on the ground and it would keep flowing instead of working like an ordinary liquid, maybe something like the water physics of Terraria, those just felt extremely natural.

I think that most game developers can't implement realistic water in their games. Water physics is nearly impossible to implement properly apparently. That's what I've heard from people and also what my computer teacher told me. I do think that they could make the water physics a bit more like terraria's though.

I'd be quite interested in seeing ways of changing the physics at will really. Imagine what wonders you could create if you were able to lay down a block which shifted the way water worked, the way it flowed, or perhaps how lava and water work together.

Tree physics would be nice. Instead of chopping the whole tree down, you would have this nice animation of a tree falling and cut if from there instead of placing blocks to reach the last wood pieces.

I think that changing the physics of Minecraft at this point in the game would do more harm than good. Players have fallen in love with the physics and idea of Minecraft. Changing it now would be a very dangerous move on Mojang's part.

I think that the physics system in Minecraft is really simple. Just bring things down to the ground and make water follow a path. That's about it. I'd love to see the physics be a little more complex. Maybe, if you throw something, it can keep on bouncing. I don't really know but it's an idea.

Yes, the trees do get pretty annoying to deal with. They should be able to fall if you take it partially down. It would save so much time and wouldn't require too much work.

I think that trees would be a good idea too. Chopping the bottom of the tree should make the tree fall right over. That would make it much more realistic. At the moment, you can chop the root of the tree down and it'll just be floating. It should at least fall down!

Technically speaking, it's all just algorithms, but the physics are still there. I don't think you mean MC not having ANY physics, because that would just not be possible. When you fall from a block, do you just stay in mid-air? If not, then the game already has physics, even though it might not work like ragdoll physics.

I think the topic here is just asking what other physics you want to add to the game. It's not saying that the game doesn't have physics at all, but we're asking what other things would you like added to add to the physics part of the game.

I'd love for every single game out there to have physics similar to the Next Car Game. I love environmental destruction in my games and I'm the type of person who would prefer to use dynamite to level a cave instead of a pickaxe, lol. It would be cool to shoot a zombie in the head and let it fall down and break through the roof of a building.

No, the reason minecraft is so unique is because most physics don't apply to it! The non nonsensical natures of minecraft is what makes it innately fun and different from all other games.

Yeah I think it would be cool if the trees just fall down once you chopped (or punched) off the lower trunk. It's really annoying having to chop everything off. Also the leaves could use some falling.

Well, I don't think the physics in MineCraft should be changed as the whole objective of the game was to be a simple game that you could pick up and play, some of the younger players might not even understand the new physics so it's best to stay with what we currently have.

Floating trees, as annoying as they are, are kind of a thing in minecraft that the game is known for.

Nope, I wouldn't change anything about the current physics...
