I preferred Fallout 3 overall, but New Vegas still had far better mechanics. Everything felt more solid and less buggy than Fallout 3 while playing throughout the Wasteland. Even VATS felt more refined and better at getting the job done. What do you think?

I think that it's true. It makes sense though, Obsidian had to improve on parts of Fallout 3 that were somewhat lacking. Otherwise it would just be the same game, mechanics-wise.

So there was definitely progress in that aspect but Fallout 3 still had more character in my opinion.

I agree too. The only problem I had with fallout 3 was that it didn't feel like a finished game. New Vegas did. I'm just talking in terms of being buggy and such

I have three copies of the game of the year edition of fallout 3. Each one will lock up my PS3 after 20-30 minutes of playing. I can tell it is about to when everything starts to slow down. At first I thought it was the console. However it doesn't lock up on any of my other games. I did all the tricks and cleanings to remedy the issue. Still the same thing. Now, Vegas can play till I'm tired of sitting or I fall asleep. Even with this huge issue, fallout 3 is still my favorite.

Oh gosh, that sounds like a horrible issue. I've heard of it before though. I think it's something to due with how buggy the game was, with it sometimes not removing rendered models, and keeping them in the background. Then eventually the game just rends too much for the console to handle.

I don't know if I can agree with you on this one. I did not get too involved and was not too impressed with New Vegas. I am way more impressed with the Fallout 3 and how it appears the makers put a lot of time into it.

Both games were absolutely good, I'd venture to say that Fallout 3 was better but I'm not too sure of that. But I agree, NV didn't feel as clumsy as Fallout 3, the mechanics and movement were definitely smoother.

NV is definitely better then F3. I just felt more connected to the world and the story in general. And speaking of story. NV had a much better story to tell then vanilla F3. NV for me felt much like the original games and I think it had a lot to do with the desert setting.

I like Fallout 3 more, but it took me more time to get into the game. I wasn't all that impressed with the beginning in the shelter, and it took me five or six hours to really get into the flow. Even then it's still a little buggy at times. NV feels like more of a finished product, even if it's ultimately not as robust or fulfilling.

I totally agree! I played Fallout 3 first but wasn't all that into it because it lagged and was gritty. Then I played Fallout New Vegas and loved it! It's so much smoother and the DLC was pretty tight. That has been my go-to game till Fallout 4 was announced and I went back to 3. I think you appreciate the originals more when newer versions come out. Can't wait for Fallout 4!!!!!
