I know that this forum is directed towards video game and online RPGs, but I was wondering if any of you guys like Tabletop RPGs. I love Tabletop games! Everything from the D20 lines to V:TM. DnD was the first RPG I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart. I'm sure some of you have similar stories. What say ye?
I love Tabletop games as well. I still play DnD regularly, and the World of Darkness franchise is also very cool. I haven`t tried Warhammer yet, but I would love too. Also, I`m a pretty good Magic player.
Man, I've not played magic in years. I'd love to give it a go again. I used to spend all my money on 'em back in the day.
I would like to try my hand at playing tabletop games, but I sadly have no one to play with since everyone I know either plays on the consoles or PC. It's a shame since games that really catch my eye are tabletops and I can't find an electronic alternative to it.
The best tabletop in my opinion is Twilight Imperium. DnD has too many rules. Another good choice is "Everyone Is Steve". You get to play as the voices in the head of a person with a multiple personality disorder. Seems crazy, but is just so much fun! Edit: Turns out the game is called "Everyone is John". Thanks for the correction
D & D is the best. Especially if you have a big group of friends that gather on a regular basis. When we were younger we actually went off on our, and wrote out some of our own quests. It was a pretty interesting bunch.
I've never played any tabletop RPGs myself, but I've heard so many good things about DnD that I definitely want to give it a try someday! Only problem is that none of my friends play RPGs at all, let along DnD specifically, so I have no one to play it with. If someone offered to play with me sometime in the future though, or even just mentioned that they play, I'd jump on the opportunity to play right away, that's for sure! Other than DnD though, I haven't actually heard of any tabletop RPGs. I'd assume all of the options out there are multiplayer though and I'm such a "loner" as people keep calling me that I doubt I'll ever be able to give most of them a chance, no matter how good they are. That's one thing I love about video game RPGs; I can become immersed into a new world where I have no worries about the current one for a little bit. I can escape. I'm sure some of these games are really awesome but I bet it is also hard to get as immersed them as you can a video game.
I first got into tabletop games because of a Windows 3.X/95 game called Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol; it was a multi-level dungeon crawler with items, monsters, and classes out the wazoo, and was endlessly customizable. A friend of mine got me into it and after we spent weeks talking about it, he brought up D&D. Now mind you this was around 1999 so right before 3rd edition came out. I spent an innumerable amount of time at his house running campaigns with him and his sister. It was those experiences that still draw me to tabletop games today. I started DMing in 2001 and haven't looked back. It's just too enjoyable for me to craft detailed worlds and act out the player's stories alongside them. Shame I wasn't in to theater arts, could've really helped my performances as a DM.
