I recently started playing and most moba games recommend a specific team layout of classes. For example, 1 tank, 1 dps, etc. Is this strategy common with this game? How do you setup your team.

As I said in the other thread I'm not much into these clan matches so I don't know how they do it on that side. But basically in a random game if you find yourself with no support or tank then you are (in general) pretty screwed. One of each is enough though, so the rest of the 3 can be assassin/specialist.
Then there is the individual hero thing... there are quite a few who don't really fall into any of the "regular" roles, such as Abathur, Murky and Sgt Hammer. All can be useful but they have their own quirks.

Also keep in mind that the map can matter quite a lot as they all have different objectives and in the end those objectives have a really big part in deciding who wins and who loses.
