The new SimCity sounds like an absolute disaster... it's a shame, since it used to be an interesting franchise. :(

Gloves off, shit on the SimCity players for supporting a game with always-on DRM. They knew the game shipped with it so they've got no one to blame but themselves for their misfortunes. Especially after Diablo III's Error 37, one would've thought gamers had learnt a valuable lesson the hard way?!

DLC can be good: Alan Wake had excellent, and cheap DLC, which was replayable and really worth it.

But yeah, I'm against most money-making DLC which offers little..

Just remembered my DLC horror story: Sinclair Solution Test Pack for Bioshock 2. Back then, early 2010, DLC wasn't as big of a problem as it is today and I didn't pay much attention to the specifics either because I rarely bought it. But when I noticed that the pack was a 128kb unlock key for on-disc content, I was furious (spent a lot of money on the Special Edition already), it completely changed my disposition towards DLC. After having spent the remainder of my Microsoft Points on a handful of various DLC packs for other games, my MSP balance finally reached 0 and I haven't bought any DLC since (late 2010). Instead, I patiently waited for GOTY editions and that's something I still do.

I don't think I've ever bought any DLC at all, ever, to be frankly honest.

I only bought 1 DLC in my entire life, the Wolf Pack DLC for PAYDAY: The Heist, it was cheap, and I really enjoyed the game, so I bought it

Where did you buy it from? If you got it from steam then you could always reinstall.

It already was, wasn't it... I really have to think hard to pinpoint the exact moment when DLC truly became a menace. I was late to the current-gen party, having only bought an xbox 360 elite back in september 2007 which functioned as an offline system only until late 2008. Which, incidentally, I remember to be the year where EA screwed us over with costume and weapon packs for Dead Space.

    Blimey...

Like I've said I really haven't bought DLC in a really long time. I'm planning of buying Skyrim on PC since I borrowed on 360 from a friend and I wanna play it with all the mods and on max graphics and no loading times, but I'm either going to wait for a GOTY edition (which should be soon) or wait till Skyrim and its DLC go on sale. I hear all the DLC is pretty cool and I wanna play Dragonborn.

I joined the current gen pretty late as well, in December of 2009, when I got a PS3 - but I'd heard about the DLC plague before since most of my friends had Xbox 360s since launch. You can even look back at games released a few years ago and find DLC packs for them. :( Mass Effect, originally released in 2007, already had DLC. EA really convinced BioWare into absolutely flooding Dragon Age: Origins with DLC in 2009. I can't remember when this messed up DLC craze started, but it's definitely something that began with this gen of gaming.

Civilization-series have always had legit dlcs. They add all kinds of new things to an already well-done game: Religion, new civilizations, new city-states, they update the unit HP system, etc. Really worth the 20$.
BF3 Premium I am a little split about, because they actually add a lot of cool stuff and it isn't expensive compared to buying the map packs separately; However, they almost force you to buy it by putting you back in waiting queue for dlc's as well as when joining servers and thus destroy some of the gaming experience for non-premium users.

I didn't know that the Civ series ever had DLC... I thought they used expansions instead. :p I can definitely remember that Civ III and Civ IV had some badass expansions (I don't remember playing an expansion to Civ II though), but I haven't played Civ V so I'm not up-to-date on all that.
That does sound like some really shady business. :(
