It seems that in Metro: Last Light kill moves exist now, which is good, but why did they remove the knife as a slot weapon? Personally I thought that the game felt more immersive being able to hold the knife, not just press a button and swing it like so many FPSes do right now.

I think that it will be a slot weapon.

  3. The player has three weapon slots and two buttons for grenades and a knife.

Perhaps you can still equip the knife if you hold the button a little longer, Like BF3's knife system.

I remember being quite disappointed when I saw this whilst watching one of the gameplay vids. It breaks some immersion for me. Firstly, it reminds me of CoD and its numerous clones... I play Metro to get away from crappy games like that. Secondly, it seems a bit unrealistic to me. Having a separate slot just for the knife meant that you had to select it on your own and then use it - just like in real life, where you have to first sling your weapon back and reach for your knife.

Still, I guess it won't be as bad if it's like Pip says it could be. I still prefer the classic way of knifing though.

Bamul, I feel exactly the same. But I think that Artyom has become so use to pulling out his knife that it is instinct at this point, I don't believe there is any mental reasoning. It's a pure, "I need to stab that .. what the fuck? my knife is already in my hand .. good job me!" situation.

Remember we did have those bits in Metro where if you got jumped by a Nosisile (Still cant spell that) you would have those Sequences.

But having Instant Pull out knifes someones dead things are stupid, should be something to it

Bring back the knife weapon slot!

The filter system, watch, knife and don't even mention the Limited Edition game...
I know they're trying to make the game a little more user friendly but seriously i'd be happy if they just had the controls option from the Ranger DLC and gave us that and left the gas mask/watch the same as in 2033.

Oops, sorry - I meant aaron. Don't know why I said Pip.
I agree, but I think we have justified too many gameplay aspects by saying that it is just Artyom's skill that has increased over time. Now I just hope that (with all the faster reloading, shorter battery recharge time and speedy movement) the game will be much more difficult and the protagonist will have to deal with even worse nightmares that will put even his new skills to the test. If not, then it will be more like CoD than Metro (from a gameplay perspective).

Well, I think it is smoother when you have it that way. In 2033, you could just press a button and the knife would be equipped. So instead of thinking in an emergency "oh I better equip my knife *grab knife* I shall proceed to stab it until it can no longer kill me" its "*graps knife* die darn you!"

Fair enough, that is actually a pretty good point. Tbh, it pretty much has me convinced. With his ranger training, Artyom would probably be much more capable with a knife and would always thrust the blade in the vital parts of the enemy's body. Switching to it as a separate weapon and slashing at something (all over its body) until it's dead seems like a pretty dumb idea when you are a skilled ranger.

Still, I do hope that this isn't the sign of even more questionable changes, but I expect it is. :(

Yeah, I don't want it to get to out of hand, like throwing grenades out of nowhere rather than having to pull them out, or not having to worry about ammo or filters. As long it retains the feel of 2033, and doesn't break the suspension of disbelief for me, its fine.

I hope its not OP like the "melee" attack in Serious Sam 3 BFE or Syndicate. You only have to press the Button and you are more powerful than the Minigun in both Games.

I agree. I think they do that to balance with the effort needed to kill makes powerful. Its still OP. I think it should be like BF3, where the insta-knife takes 2-3 hits, but doing it from behind is slow but lethal.

Why don't they make the knife action like it is with the circular control layout in 2033? Just press Y (for xbox) to pull out knife, slash until every mofo is dead, press y again to whip out your gun.
