We already know that ESO will have a big megaserver for its big battle PvP mechanic, allowing players to join different guilds and factions to battle control of one big map composed of 20 keeps. An article from Joystiq (http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/1...es-the-elder-scrolls-online-revolve-around-p/) however, directed my attention to an interesting twist. It seems that a big chunk of the ESO economy will also revolve around controlling the PvP map, making the game even more PvP-centric than we realized.

Why is this so? In the game, the faction who will control the map will be able to set up shops at respective keeps. Since guilds will fully control what kinds of products are infused into the market, it gives them a bigger incentive to fight PvP battles -- whoever controls the map will have access to better gear and will have better opportunities to make more money. I think this is game-changing and would be interesting to see this played out on the field.

I'm not too sure though how this would affect PvE-centric players. Although the developers have said that you can just teleport to a keep to buy stuff, you still need to be a member of a guild to be able to have access to the markets. Guilds, I believe, will be more powerful in this game.

What do you think, does this new mechanic make ESO a PvP-centric game, or is it just a new feature that wouldn't have that much of an effect?

I would like to see guilds having a lot of power in the game. In previous games the case was just that you would complete the guild quests get some reward and that was it, you never got any special influence. I was head arch mage of the mages guild and every one in that place still treating me the same as if I'd never joined. So seeing the effects of rising the ranks of guild in game would be interesting in TESO.

I hope somehow the smaller guilds will have a fighting chance the way I see it I see a couple of guilds having the most popularity.

It is hard to say how big of an influence pvp will have on the game because we don´t know the basics of how good the gear is, and how difficult it will be to get without controlling the pvp zone.

My guess is that they already realize the majority of their followers are single-player fans and that they aren´t going to allow pvp to muck it up for players that don´t want that type of gameplay.

I hate, even in WOW, when a game is clearly designed for one aspect (pve) and then tries to add pvp on top of it. If they create that zone and have the system as they described, then they are putting a lot of work into it.. so now they are going to have to spend time trying to tempt pve players to do it... which means they have to make the rewards meaningful for pve players.

I know warhammer tried the whole control of keeps thing, and their videos and concept pieces were very interesting. I am unsure if they ever got it into their game, but it is a very interesting concept. I don't think this will become dominated by one guild, but ever if it does, everyone can just join that guild.

I really like the concept. I think it will make the guilds more competitive and the game play more interesting. I've no surprise since its obvious that Bethesda wants this game to be more centered on PvP and not so much on PvE.

I agree. I really like the concept of the keeps and one large map. That's amazing that they are looking into ARMA 2-sized conflicts instead of making it small like WoW's WSG, AB, and AV. I hope that the action is really fast paced and also requires mini-PvE encounters - like in Alterac Valley in WoW.

I think focusing more on PvP is a better goal I mean PvE is fine, but once you get to the end game it becomes useless.

I think having PVP is fine but I don't like forced PVP to make your side more powerful. It's a little silly and ffxi does this in ways like going into high XP parties and the more people in your country earn XP in that region the more control you have and there was other ways of doing that too like Garrison Quests or Expeditionary Force.

I never played a FF MMO, but I am sure PvP won't be forced, but it will be a big part of the game the only way I see PvP being forced in anyway is if the players make it that way.

As long as everyone has a chance, I'm okay with it. I don't like the idea that the most powerful guild will have the best gear, this creates a cycle in which people try to gain control, but can't due to the enemies always having better gear. If this isn't the case, then it should be fun.

Agreed, I'm hoping there'll be a good deal of balance incorporated into the game at the same time as providing motivation to lower guilds to become more powerful, at the same time as keeping the game pretty enjoyable.

I'm extremely excited for PvP, I think it will be a huge aspect of the game, and will encourage guilds to be created and for people to join guilds. PvP is one of the main reasons I'm planning on picking up this game.

I really doubt it will have that much effect on PvE players. They want the game to appeal to as many people as they possibly can. You can bet that if the PvE players complain too much they will cut down on that feature. Which is honestly pretty shitty. Pandering never makes a great game. It's good to listen to the players, but when it diminishes the original ideas it just makes the game worse.

More PvP is always welcomed. This is good news! But yeah, sometimes sticking to what makes a game unique is important. When you try to pander too much to a specific group, you tend to lost fans. Maybe they can find a middle ground for it?

I kind of like that they're trying to differentiate the game from the other MMO's out there. I'm not a huge fan of PvP but this could be something that gets me more involved in the PvP side of things.

I will say that I do like the overall idea of this mechanic, but l will say this communism was a good idea but was bad in practice.. food for thought I think.

At least they're trying a new pvp mechanic to make it unique from other MMO's. As an avid pvper, it really does sound like a lot of fun in theory to try out. Obviously, need to try it to find out if it's good or not, but I applaud the devs for trying to take a different tactic.

^ This, there won't be any sense in the game if you'd just join a server to be bullied and overpowered by the dominating guild. Everyone should still have the equal opportunity and guilds should just act as a complementary addition and not as the sole priority of the game itself.

I'm kind of looking forward to PVP, it'll make for some interesting dynamics. I agree--so long as guilds don't become the be-all end-all, it will still make for a fun game. I've played more than a few guild-oriented games that went sour fairly fast.
