Since we were flooding the other thread with irrelevant posts, I thought it would be more appropriate to carry on the conversation about the new suits here. :)

Toshi, that picture is in the metro, so I don't see why he'd have to wear any other type of gloves. Also, some NBC suits did look that big - though mostly the older types, which makes sense since they wouldn't have access to top-notch stuff in the metro. Besides, I may be completely wrong about all of this. It would be nice if the developers started taking more from the books and putting it in the game, but for all we know - the suits might be for some completely different reason. Maybe it's faction-related, or something. I guess we'll find out when the game comes out. :)

Well why would they be wearing NBC suits and gas masks if there's no threat? Surely if they're going stand about and waste precious filters then they'd at least be fully dressed in NBC gear. The other image, i'm pretty sure I have seen one of the surface too but I can't remember where http://www.flickr.com/photos/88350441@N07/8071993268/in/photostream

Also in the trailer where Artyom and Pavel cross the surface Pavel is wearing fingerless gloves and no protective suit.

I'm not saying you're wrong, maybe they are trying to make it like the books but if so it wouldn't make sense for them not to cover their whole body not just the legs and feet.

Another image of people in protective gear, this time on the surface but wearing fingerless gloves. Although it's slightly off topic because the thread was about the baggy trousers and stupid boots but... Oh and I found it of course :')[IMG]

I'm not into the big, puffy-booted suits. They break immersion for me, and don't seem realistic in the least. Imagine how tough it would be to move in them. Like I said, not into it.

Off-topic: this image makes the Heavy Automatic Shotgun look like a little toy. Come on devs, it's a modified DShK 12! A f*cking heavy machine gun!

On topic: the apparel is a little over-done but it definitely could be worse guys.

Yeah I suppose we could end up dealing with big Space Marine/Juggernaut looking mofos... Oh wait there's some on the train holding the secret prisoner in the 12 minute gameplay trailer.

Aha to be fair though guys it's not something that really bothers me whether or not they include it in the game or not but i'd rather see some more realistic character skins since that's one of the reasons I love the first Metro. Nothing felt too out of this world.

Did you read the article? i didnt want to because of spoilers, but did...

    *******SPOILER ALERT****************************************

A plague has broken out in the metro. Those boots look like disposeable overboots - worn over normal boots - Probably for moving the dead about, walking through blood / contaminated areas. Notice they look like theyre taped on, and the red cross on the chest...

As a side note, a lot of modern combat gear, Russia's included, tends to be baggy to allow unrestricted movement and in the case of camouflage suits it helps to break up the human silhouette...
Russia's military sizing system is pretty vague too

There you go - thanks for that pic, Bunny. Furthermore, they may have some protective clothing underneath that as well. As for the fingerless gloves on the surface... I honestly can't say. It doesn't make any sense and it looks really stupid. I can understand that Pavel would wear fingerless gloves since he isn't wearing an NBC suit; which could be just because he's a "boss" and doesn't take the threat seriously. But those other guys? Why the hell would they wear fingerless gloves AND an NBC suit. That completely defeats the purpose.

Obviously, full-on gloves that offer more protection make it harder to pull the trigger - but there are special types of gloves for that, which are made of different & more flexible material on the trigger fingers. I honestly don't know anymore. :( I hope it's just an inconsistency that 4A Games missed and will fix soon, before the game's release. After all, they still have a few months until then.

That doesn't explain why they don't wear protective gloves then if there's a plague about, even rubber gloves would do.

Also yes militaries today wear baggy clothes, especially snipers etc but again, why would it only be the trousers and boots that are so huge and I doubt that even with rubber over boots that they would be so big compared to the rest of the body.

Look at the pictures again mate. First figures in overboots ARE wearing gloves... (compare the colour of their hands to the skin behind the mask) Also, if you go through the rest of the magazine article you will see other figures clearly wearing normal sized boots and clothing. Chunky boots admittedly, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The first guys hands looks similar to his skin behind the mask + the light on his head is making the lower part of his body a lot lighter and as far as I can see the guy on the rights skin behind mask is hard to see and is also in a dark part of the shot, + his left hand (On the right when we look at him) is slightly pinkish but again the bright light is shining on the other hand.

Go to page 4, guy wearing mask, fingerless gloves, baggy overalls again (So useless for protection against bacteria etc.)

Page 5, another guy in gas mask and baggy overalls with the red cross, no gloves. + again the light shining on the top of one of his hands making it appear lighter than it is.

well it IS kinda hard to move around in a full NBC suit, they are dsigned for protection, not speed. and about the size of the boot-size, you wear your regular boots beneath? kinda makes it bigger.

but the picture were discussing, I'm guessing its pretty much homemade or old. And lets face it, in the metro the chances of finding topnotch Military NBC equipment would be pewtty slim, right?, and the reason for the boots is so big is because the boots underneath, the nbc pants which are somewhat baggy and tucked in the bots to make it airtight and the uniform pants he has under that and so on.

Edit: the boots in the article picture looks like taped black plastic bags. to me atleast.

yeah i can see the point with the fingerless gloves, but i have to disagree with you on the rest mate. Also, we are seeing these pictures out of context, we don't know the stories involved, the guy with fingerless gloves may be 'off duty' not handling the infected. Lets not pull things apart. we know the game will be good...

    So vanilla, just for fun:

I didn't say the game would be bad. Anyway only the second picture of your previous post has real baggy legs, I do see how those boots could be that big though now. If they are off duty then why the gas mask? If the virus is airborne then surely it would land on his skin anyway so as soon as he touches anything else it can get the virus on it too. EDIT: Oh and I forgot there's a picture of a guy not wearing gloves in an infirmary.

http://www.sovietarmystuff.com/Product_185_OZK_Soviet_||_Russian_Army_Chemical_Protection_Suit.html some old soviet army suits.

http://www.sovietarmystuff.com/Prod..._Chemical_NBC_Hazmat_Protection_Suit_L-1.html another old soviet army suit.

Another very old Russian NBC suit, this one is made from rubber though and looks a lot like the ones in the game screenshots http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/741/369741_120105212204_russiansuit6.JPG

I know they're old but like you said the inhabitants of the Metro are likely to use anything they get their hands on. Also there's loads of old soviet era stuff still in storage which is why it's so easy to get hold of.

Still not as baggy as the ones in game.

Edit: Just found out the new term for NBC (Nuclear, biological, chemical) suit is CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological, Nuclear)

perhaps the developers werent taking into account the suits manuverability, practicality or realism. maybe they didnt give it THAT much thought. if not the only thing i can think of is that they need the big boots to act as a sort of waterproof boot since the ice is melting and turning into a quagmire.

A pair of NBC overboots would be fine for that, i'm pretty sure they're waterproof.

Guys, Joe has answered our questions regarding this in the question thread. :) The only thing that remains is the inconsistency with the fingerless gloves.
