I hate how once you finish the main quest you can't continue on to play all of the side quests. I mean, why on earth would you leave that out of an open world RPG? It can't put THAT much strain on the developers or cost THAT much more money to develop can it?
Well, the thing is, no matter how much we complaint about it, they are not going to release an official patch for it to fix everything. However, you can download one of the many modes available to sort it out. Those mods will enable to you play the game even after you finish the main quest.
In New Vegas, they chose to make it like that because of the disconnect between the game ending and the wasteland changing according to the ending. I'm sure they could have fixed up a way of sorting that without making it the way it is but.. obsidian had to cut some content here and there so I'm not surprised..
This is not an issue in Fallout 3 if you have the Broken Steel DLC. I don't mind it for New Vegas because the ending talks about how the Wasteland is affected by the outcome of the ending, so it would be very odd to continue playing at that point...
I can understand gamers' malcontent over this issue with some of the Fallout games, but I don't find it to be that big of a deal. There are ways to get around it, or you can just keep playing without finishing the game.
Yes I really did not like this either. The developers made us buy DLC to continue on with our stories after the main quests. I mean that is so dumb, we deserve to continue our save files after we complete the game.
It's not that difficult to load a previous save. Plus, if you're playing Fallout 3 and have this issue it is because you do not have the Broken Steel DLC installed.
Honestly I never had a problem with this. keep save backups like you should and if you find you have inadvertently finished the storyline and can't continue playing, just reload the older save. You've finished the game, and you can continue playing. Or if you must, use a mod for it do that. Seems kinda stupid though to use a mod when you can just use an old save and avoid finishing the game.
I don't like that too, takes away the sense of freedom I always get from Fallout games. I'd like to see a DLC after the New Vegas ending, but that's not really possible considering the endings. But when I end the main story of a given game, I like when NPC's recognize it and talk about it. Whatever the ending is, if it allows to continue playing. And the world should change too - see the results of your actions. But Fallout 3 and especially New Vegas were superb, so that's not really a big flaw for me.
