Also, it is entirely possible to get the good ending while still gunning down the human enemies, you just have to make sure to get plenty of good moral points (there are several very big choices which can easily throw you in either direction)

 

It seems like Metro: LL is just about being as non-lethal as possible unless forced. If you're in a linear section and there's no obvious way to get around stealthily, you're not going to be penalized for slaughtering everyone in sight.

Being able to one-shot anyone in melee with a punch is just silly when they've been alerted.

 

Ever got punched in the face with knuckles?

 

That looks like that would really hurt, but I think I'd take the knuckles over the blade any day.

Let me correct that for you:

"you can't kill any enemies for the SHADOW RANGER ACHIEVEMENT."

You can kill most of the enemies and you still can get a good ending. Check the 'Moral Points' on metro Wiki for more info. The more you have them, the bigger chance is to get good ending.

 

You can murder every living thing you meet, execute the soldiers that surrender and throw their weapons on the ground and clear out mutant nests even when explicitly told that they are not hostile and still get a good ending through extensive world exploration.

The Dark One judges you through your memories by reading your mind.

If your Aryom is a W+M1 dummy, he will simply honor his part of the bargain and leave.

If your Artyom actually cares and is knowledgeable about the world he lives in, even if he is a murderer (I now understand why you humans kill), he will help beyond his promise.

Don't treat this game as "give money to five hobos" to get another ending.

 

Many of the moral points in this game can be earned for virtually no effort, or even no deviation from the path that you would normally take. It's almost too easy to get the positive ending.

 

Considering such a small percentage every even got to see the positive ending in 2033, I'm sure 4A was trying to make it more accessible to more than the Metro experts.
