There's going to be micro transactions

Well things just seem to be getting worse. First off, we all know it'll cost us $15 a month to play the game, now they're springing micro transactions on us. Which means more money to be spent on the game. $60 for the original game, $15 a month and now micro transactions. What do you all think about this and is it something you welcome or don't want to see?

I just hope the $15 per-month gives us better things. We'll see.

Well micro-transactions are simply something you don't need. You can play the game without buying any of those and I'm sure some of the items you can get by playing through the game. Some people don't have a whole lot of time to play a huge game like ESO (It should be huge), so micro-transactions come in handy for those people.

And I don't mind them as they tend to give money to the developers.

You know, this isn't so bad as the whole $15 a month garbage. I like purchasing small things, because I don't have to if I don't want to. I like being able to purchase things that can make my game a bit easier or help out in some way. I know people complain about the whole micro-transactions in video games, but it does add something to a game.

Now how does this work with the $15 price per month? I mean wouldn't it be best if they had free stuff like this with the sub fee?

Micro transaction are good only if they are optional such as a different weapon or armour, otherwise this game will be really expensive..and not so much played ;)

I always hated required micro transactions! They should be limited on optional stuff like clothing and armor like Dusty said. We shouldn't be separating players based on if they can pay the micro transactions or not. I always hated games like Runescape where you had free accounts and then member accounts who had all of the great privelages.

Well, what can I say now? They have shot themselves in their own foot and are going to die slowly and bleed all the initial subscrbers if they don't apply the much needed F2P or B2P bandage.

I don't mind microtransactions as such as long as people can have the (longer) option of playing the game and getting the stuff for free or at least a reduced cost. As I've said before, people who play the game for longer and play the full scope are who create PvP interest so they shouldn't be penalised for this.

Let's see if your decision to pay a subscription fees really pays off. They haven't showed my of the game yet, have they?

Check you tube and the web site. There are several videos of actual game play up and floating around. As for the micro tranactions those do not bother me so much. As long as it is not required to play the game. If they follow the footsteps of Runescape and make it required for content and Item s... well then they are putting a noose around thier own neck. A better option would be a F2P version with lv cap and Micro transactions for special items and such.

So first I pay $60 to have the game. Then I pay $15 a month if I want to play the game which I bought. And now I pay extra to have items that are in the game I bought and am paying to play?

No but seriously now. Things have gone too far, it's outrageous. NOT touching ESO. And that is a promise. They can keep their game.

I am not touching it either despite being a lifelong fan. Enough is enough. You won't get my my Bethesda - not a single dime.

That's the thing, I've played all of the Elder Scrolls games since Morrowind. Now they are going online, hitting me with a subscription fee and on top of that they want me to pay for items. Ohh well maybe they will continue the single player games too.

Maybe, I will go and play on unofficial servers for free. I am pretty sure they will have some servers since it's pretty popular game.

That is one possibility but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I'm sure the publisher will do anything they can to prevent unofficial servers.

Yes, they will do as much as they can to prevent people from playing from free like Blizzard is doing for games like WoW and Diablo 3, but they haven't been able to put a stop to unofficial servers. They keep popping up.

That's the thing, they keep popping up and then going down. ;) There will always be unofficial servers but I'm not sure if any of them can offer a similar environment as the official ones.

Expecting a similar ambiance and quality from a cracked server would not be fair. I have played WoW on some unofficial servers in the past. It was reasonably good IMO :)

I'm not too bothered, because I rarely buy anything through games anyway. The items you buy probably won't even be that good, and might even be unlock-able by playing the game. Regardless, it's a pretty poor move by Bethesda here to do this considering the amount they're currently charging.
