So I loaded my last check point and I'm stuck in the scenery; under the swamp to be exact, outside the church. No possible way to break free.
I don't think there's a way out of this is there.

And this is why games that save your progress for you and don't allow you to save yourself is a really terrible idea.

You can use a chapter select screen to restart this level.

Blame the consoles for that. PC games used to let you save anywhere until they became multiplatform.
