I used to play Atlantica Online during its hype and what I enjoyed most about the game is the fact that you get to compete against other players (PVP) in a turn-based combat system. This is the only tun-based MMORPG that I know of, but perhaps there are other turn-based MMORPG out there that you guys might know.

And yes, I am still disappointed that SquareEnix and the Final Fantasy franchise has yet to make a turn-based MMORPG considering the franchise was known for this genre. I was hoping that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn would follow this type of combat system. (-_-)

Problem with that type of combat is that it's more difficult and it doesn't suit everyone's taste.
Btw SquareEnix are currently working on a interesting game - Nosgoth. It's humans vs vampires if I'm not mistaken.

Well you have a point there. I guess that is what makes turn-based RPG special in my opinion as not all types of gamers has the determination to understand the mechanics of this genre. All gamers can play FPS games and action RPGs, but not everyone can play and understand turn-based RPGs.

Nosgoth has an interesting theme, but it appears to be yet another action game.

It's the same reason why turn-based is almost dead even for RPGs. People's lack of attention span towards slow gameplay. Many people don't have the patience for it I assume. I blame myself for being one of them. When turn-based was a thing, I had always hoped that combat could be real time. Now that turn-based has become obscure, I yearn for it.

TBRPGs are on the way out and have been for a while. Civilization even shows evidence of this. Sales for Civilization used to be HUGE, but IV and V show massive losses in sales. The genres has kind of been replaced for the time being.

I wish Squarsoft would just make a Final Fantasy MMO that played just like the older Final Fantasy games. Atlantica Online made a pretty good attempt but it was not exactly what I wanted.

I think Dragon Quest X is a turn based RPG MMO. But It's JP Only.

They had their golden period back in the day but now most of them shut down.

    Shame.
