There are two general classifications of RPGs - turn based and action RPGs. I grew up paying Final Fantasy games on the PlayStation. I also played action RPGs like Ocarina of Time but I prefer the turn based games more. What about you? Which do you prefer?
I also prefer turn-based RPGs and turn-based combat. Theirs more strategy involved, though turn-based battles usually take longer.
I personally like the action RPG type, such as in The Legend of Zelda. Maybe it's because of how great Zelda is. But I just love it being direct. I don't, however, dislike the turn-based concept. They're both great honestly, variation is everything.
I like action RPG more just because it's more realistic when I was younger I liked turn based more just because my reflexes were not developed yet so they were a little easier for me to play.
I think I thoroughly, almost equally, enjoy both. If I'm in the mood for a more involved, intense experience, I'll pick up an action RPG. If I want something I can pay half of my attention to, or if I'm just too tired, I'll play a turn-based game like Final Fantasy.
I wasn't a big fan of turn-based RPGs, but ever since I played Book of Heroes on my Android I've been hooked on to it. I just think that action RPGs have got more flow to it and keeps the action moving forward all the time, hence they require a lotta attention from the players too while they are being played.
It really depends on what do you have to do during the turn - if you have lots of strategic stuff to do, a bit like NEOScavenger, I'd prefer that - otherwise, real time action would be my choice.
Both have their own advantages. I really like turn-based when it's very tactical but other than that I prefer action ones.
I prefer realtime action RPG games over turn based. I grew up playing games like Chinese Paladin and Final Fantasy, which are both in essence a turn based click/press to attack/dodge kind of game. While it may be fun at times to have time to plan out your every move in a turn based game, realtime action RPG games such as TERA bring the real immersion of an RPG game to the player where the player must react quickly or die. The realtime system is a mechanic that allows players to feel like they are actually a part of the game, not some god who can control what will happen next in the battle like in turn based games.
I like a bit of both. Over the years I've been moving towards action RPGs, but I really did enjoy the old classic turn-based ones like Final Fantasy, Chrono etc. I think the strategy elements of turn-based games just attract a different kind of player.
My favorite game genres are RPG and strategy, so unsurprisingly I have a preference for turn based combat as it combine both RPG and strategy elements. That is not to say I don't like action RPGs, there are many that I enjoy playing but I tend to prefer turn based. Sadly though, there hasn't been much good turn based RPG this gen.
For pure RPG I prefer action RPGs. Turn based RPGs give you too much time to make a decision. I like games where reflexes are needed and you can't think for too long.
I like both but having played tons of Final Fantasy I have a tendency to enjoy turn based RPGs more than action ones, but they can definitely be fun. Especially games like Diablo or PoE.
Depends on my mood. I find action based RPGs more entertaining but there is something about the strategy of turn based RPGs that is definitely very appealing.
I play only action RPG's like Witcher, WOW, Mass Effect because I get bored very fast if there isn't constant action in the game. I played very few turn based games, but they were very uninteresting and monotonous.
I love both, but kind of prefer Action-RPGs because the player's skills are more important in them. Sure, turn-based require strategizing and stuff but Action-RPGs require both strategies and you being good enough at the game to pull them off.
Action all the way. Skill and experience is crucial, and combat is far more intense. I'm looking forward to ESO, where archers need to be skilled shots and tanks need to learn to actually block. This is going to be a huge step in MMO gaming.
