Anyone else been following this? I think it's fascinating. It's an interesting experiment that provides good evidence for the idea of eventual success. Even though it's extremely difficult to accomplish things in the game, because of the simple fact that the game is being played almost 24/7, they will undoubtedly progress and (in my opinion) eventually win.
I have not watched any twichplay's, but I have watched only a few let's plays on Pokemon all of them were solo runs.
Well, TwitchPlaysPokemon is pretty amazing and unique. Never before have I seen a gaming collab that involves literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of people playing THE SAME GAME at once, controlling ONE character. Seriously cool.
Haven't been following on this. How does it work exactly? How do so many people control one character at once? TwitchPlaysPokemon is a channel on Twitch.tv I presume. Also, is that the name of the channel because I want to watch it some time.
Here's a link to the livestream: http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon Heres the gist of how it works: if a person types a valid command into the chat window (up, down, left, right, start, select, A, or B) then the program will automatically translate the move to the game, and the character moves or acts automatically. There is only a certain speed that the program and game can operate, so not all the incoming commands are selected, which adds an amount of randomness. There is also a new thing they have added which is Democracy and Anarchy. People can vote for either democracy or anarchy by entering their choice into the chat window. If enough votes are cast for one mode, it will switch. Anarchy is the normal mode, where all incoming commands are sent to the game. Democracy is quite different, the game will only use the most popular command after a certain amount of time (I'm not sure how long that is.) In anarchy, the character in the game (Ash) will move much more quickly, but much more randomly. In Democracy, the character will move much more slowly, but there's a higher chance the character will actually be able to progress, because better commands will be selected. To catch you up on a few things that happened: Their best Pokemon is a Pigeot the community has dubbed "Bird Jesus." They managed to catch Eevee with plans to evolve it to Vaporeon, so they could teach it Surf, but they accidentally evolved it to a Flareon. When trying to use the PC, they accidentally released some of their best Pokemon, including their starter Charmander. The character often accidentally looks at the Helix Fossil in his inventory, which has caused a meme: "consult the Helix Fossil!" Hope the info helps! I'm not following extremely closely, but I have friends who are, so I often ask them to fill me in on what has happened.
I've never heard of twitch play before, its interesting, like a social experiment, really cool concept though.
I went on yesterday and found out they already beaten Pokemon Red. Very impressive indeed. It was a mess initially because of some people trolling the game. Thankfully they had democracy and the other mode whatever they call it. It was a lot of fun to watch, they are going for Pokemon Crystal now.
Sounds like it would be worth checking out, but I don't think I would have time to watch it if they had a YT page with the missed streams that would be cool.
I do like it, but it has to many trolls on the game. I mean remember how long it took Lazorgator to evolve? I do not like that at all.
I checked it out a few times, but it got kind of old for me after spending about 10 minutes in the chat. Far too many trolls to make it truly enjoyable and the gameplay was really slow for obvious purposes of having to cater to thousands of people trying to make decisions for one game character. Very cool idea though and it was easily the most popular twitch channel for a few months. It seems to have lost steam during the last month or so though.
Holy moly, tens of thousands of people playing the same game and character? That's insanity! Very cool idea, but I think I am not even grasping the concept of this. I will have to check this out. It sounds interesting and I can't really imagine how it works.
It sounds very awesome, and it definitely is a unique idea that they have come up with. I haven't watched it, but I will for sure check it out in the next few days. I am interested to see how the system works.
