Which RPGS do you like that most people do not know about? My favorites: Vagrant Story, the Legend of Mana and Valkyrie Profile.
Lost Odyssey, it's a great RPG I don't get why people complain about it. It was one of the last turn based RPGs.
This is one that I found out about recently from a recommendation, but I don't have the chance to try it out yet. The art and story look fantastic, but I don't think it's obscure, at least judging by the popularity of it's predecessor, Xenogears.
I've rarely ever heard of it even being discussed at all. People talk about Xenogears and Xenoblade but rarely about XenoSaga for some reason..
The Avernum series from Spiderweb Software is a retro-style game turn based RPG that can keep you heavily addicted. The games themselves are super cheap on Steam. Well worth the money if you like party-based, turn based RPGs with tons of hidden secrets and stats heavy combat. http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/products.html
Mount and Blade is one of the best that I've ever played. There are TONS of mods for it, so the possibilities are endless.
A game that I loved growing up that didn't seem to get much recognition was Saga Frontier. It was quite cool there were lots of playable characters and you had to beat each story in order to complete the whole game.
Vagrant Story was not underrated. It got high critical acclaim. It received a lot of positive reviews. It just wasn't very popular with video game players. MonsterSeed is an RPG which I think is underrated. It received a score of slightly above mediocre from a lot of video game sites. It should have received a higher score because it had an extremely good combat system and a superb pokemon-like monster system.
The Napoleonic Wars expansion is one of the coolest multiplayer experiences out there. Great if you like coordinated play. I love mount and blade.
The Napoleonic Wars was actually a really cool game. I found it for super cheap online and figured I'd give it a shot.
Underrated is a bit hard. There are a lot of games out there that are underrated. I would probably go with the Suikoden series and in particular Suikoden 2. That game is just straight up amazing. Every aspect of it is fantastic. If you haven't had the chance to play it I would definitely recommend finding it.
illusions of gaia was the only one i have heard of off of this list, its a shame the general public doesnt have much faith in no named games
There's a few modern RPGs that are just painfully underrated and unknown... Here's a few: Resonance of Fate, NieR, The Last Remnant (only the PC version, though, 360 version is awful) and Lost Odyssey. Some of the best RPGs ever, IMO, but extremely underrated. Yes, it saddens me that these unique RPG games get toss to the side and ignored while the masses eat up the newest Call of Duty...
That's because CoD requires no effort. It's about as much of a game as Farmville is at this point. People who play Farmville religiously can't be called "gamers" seriously, and I think neither can CoD players. So with that being said, it isn't surprising that most people just play games like CoD and nothing else. Real gamers do branch out to other games because they want different experiences. CoD players are not real gamers, and therefore don't do that. Other games don't circle jerk their ego like CoD does.
This. I always facepalm when articles or posts come up with a list of great RPG titles and not even mention the Suikoden series. People are missing out a lot by not playing the Suikoden games.
I got one for you. Alpha Protocol. It was brim full of bugs when it released, but if you waited for patches or waded through the bugs, you would find a really underrated RPG gem with a very good story and nice choices. Too bad the chances for a sequel are very low, because most people hated it.
I've heard about that one. Sounds like a true diamond in the rough. I've heard the story and decisions are some of the best and far surpasses games like Mass Effect.
