    Ahahaha same!
I was just finishing off some left over beef burgers whilst listening to Cattle Decapitation. They "sing" about cannibalism and slaughtering people but they mean it hypothetically. It's quite comical, especially since all of the band members other than the drummer are vegetarians.

I'm against unnecessary animal cruelty but a man has gotta eat something and I don't really like most vegetables, i'm a fruit man myself + meat tastes so ridiculously good and eating grass in a survival situation isn't going to help you.

Of course I have no problem with vegetarians, it's your choice.

Vegetarian food can be very good. I experienced this at a high level when my girlfriend, that I was with for almost a year, was a vegetarian and had been so for five years if I remember correctly. I am, myself, a meatlover. (That sounds so wrong). I'm a meatperson. Everytime we eat a proper dinner by the diningtable, there's vegetables and meat, and I always eat a load of meat and just a decent ammount of vegetables :p

I hardly eat any vegetables, but I like most fruits and roots.
A good 40oz T-bone steak with bearnaise sauce though... Damn :p
    To illustrate:

Mh i am not vegetarian, but i kinda look up to them. I mean, the whole idea of refusing meat to decrease the Humankind's impact on Earth is really interesting, isn't it?
But i myself could never deprive myself of the taste of meat, although i try to limit its consume.

If only it was so simple. I mean, when you try to be friendly and bring a pizza to your student group, and when you open the box, some bitchy vegetarian says" Oh, I have to leave, it smells of death here" you kinda stop liking vegetarians.
A lot, not all, but a lot of vegetarians feel like they're raised above the barbarical meat-eaters, which pisses me off, considering how our toothset is based on us being 56% predators.

well there is the cultural aspect too. people in colder places ate more meat adn were more dependent on animals as a foodsource. if humies hadn't devoured animals, we couldn't expand as far north as we did.

Some tend to rank themselves above those who eat meat, and can tend to be very rude regarding the situation, and this also makes me angry as well. But yes, I do like the idea of what they are actually doing for the planet. If I'm not wrong, I mean to have heard that close to 50% of the world's population consists of vegetarians?

On another note: Fill a cooking-plate-thingy with cream, put in some chicken fillets with bacon and champignon on top, cook in oven for a while. When it's finished, you use the cream as sauce for your rice, and the chicken will be through-soaked with cream, making it juicy and delicious, with bacon and champignon. My Danish uncle made this once when we visited him in Denmark, and we brought the recipe home. That stuff is delicious! :D

Also to those people who'd say we are herbivores becasue a baby would choose an apple over a rabbit?
So people aren't supposed to eat coconuts either, because we can't crack them with our bare hands?
    EDIT: Sounds delicious Skaara :p

Lol most of the time they don't eat meat because they feel sorry for the animals not the impact of it on earth because in most places there is no impact, the animals are bred to specifically be eaten. You will find in places where this isn't happening that they are not the sort of places where they can just go to the shop and buy some food, it's the only way they can survive and so they will eat anything that they can get their hands on.

I see some of you here are under the impression that vegetarianism revolves around stuffing your face with vegetables? That is not the case. :p I eat pretty much the same amount of veg as I used to, but fill in the wholes with some other high-protein foods. Btw, rolfwar, it's really not as hard as everyone thinks. I hear most people with respect for vegetarians say that, and I thought so myself, but when I actually turned vegetarian - it turned out to be so much easier than it seemed. :)

Anyway, I find reading the cases of vegetarian elitism you describe to be quite funny. Sure, there are people like that, but it's usually the other way around. Those who were raised as vegetarians and come from a culture that forbids them to eat meat are usually spared some of the torture due to people being afraid of accusations of racism. But if it's something you chose to do yourself? Then you're in for a helluva ride.

Among my male friends, I always was considered as one of the most mature guys. Always one of the tallest, with the lowest voice, less mood swings and first to have facial hair. Now, I find the idea of proving yourself as an "alpha male" quite ridiculous. Sure, it's natural, but from that point of view - I am a freak. I am a mutant and I do not find the idea of chest bumping, showing off my physical strength or harassing females appealing. However, my friends assign a lot of value to that, so you can only imagine how they felt when I turned vegetarian.

Since then, I've received nothing but insults and humiliation from almost everyone I've talked with about vegetarianism. My friends, their parents, sometimes other adults, and very rarely - even family members. But my teenage colleagues and friends are definitely the worst offenders. So, you'd think that would entitle me to some vegetarian elitism, would it not? Hell, sometimes I feel like I'm about to feed their own teeth to them when they really piss me off, but I never do either. No snarky or elitist comments about 'meat-eaters' and no violence. Basically, as if being pestered due to being an Eastern/Central European Slavic immigrant wasn't bad enough, they also harass me because of the decisions I make in life.

So next time someone complains about vegetarians "acting up", just realize how many of you make us feel. Obviously, there are exceptions... but, yeah, I think I've made my point clear. ;)

True words right there ^ I always knew this, and was quite aware of it, but I've never really thought that much about it.
On another note, have you seen how the mass-producing of chicken and beef sometimes work? Man, just search it on youtube, that's some horrible stuff.

Well, I don't think I've ever directly insulted or humiliated a vegetarian. But I probably have indirectly in some way, and I might be one of the bad guys in your story. Because I like meat, and because I think it's natural, and some vegetarians might feel like I don't accept them, because I don't understand them at all. But I never offend people over religion, ethnicity, obesity, hair style or if they're emos, goths etc.
There's room for everyone. All the vegetarians I know are nice enough, but eating together is an important pillar in the buildup of friendships, and if someone deliberately eats something else than me, that might cause a roadbump or two.
For example, I like to do an "epicmealtime" like session - hard to do with a vegetarian, don't you think? :eek:hwell:

Not really, there are plenty of non-meaty foods. None of my friends ever found that to be a problem, yet they always feel the new to make at least one joke or throw in at least one insult when at the table. The others usually laugh.

As for the treatment of animals... well, mommy piggies are raised and (when pregnant) kept confined in gestation crates most of their adult lives. They have to lie for weeks in their own shit, motionless, just so their kiddy piggies can have the milk and later get slaughtered. How nice!

Little chickens are packed tightly together with almost no room to breathe, fed chemicals everyday. Hens laying eggs are also given a royal treatment.

Broilers even get their own luxurious truck for personal transport.

    Bon appétit! ;)

Warning: This is heavy material, not suggested for the weak-hearted. Watch at your own risk.

I'm not saying you should watch this, but I find it very surprising, and videos like this has sometimes almost made me concider to stop eating meat. Of course, it's not like this everywhere. I don't know how many percent are like this, and how many percent do it the good way. But from the looks of it, it seems to me that most slaughterhouses are like in the video.
