Do you think we'll be getting a voiced protagonist for the first time, or was Bethesday just playing mind-games?

Would having a voice add to the immersion, or take away from it? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I pray to every possible god there is that we do NOT get a voiced protagonist, and I am an atheist. It would definitely take away from the immersion and I seriously hope they were joking.

    Honestly, I don't mind it.

On one hand, a voice may feel us closer the character at hand. However the voice also proves that this is another character, and not "us" (since we're trying to roleplay).

But I think a voiced protagonist would work just as well, there have been a lot of splendid RPG Games with voice protagonist (Witcher 3), and some without (Skyrim)

I think having a voiced protagonist would take away some of the immersion. It wouldn't be "you" anymore and I think that was the most important part of the Fallout games. The RPGs that do have voice acting are the ones with a predefined character (Gerald in The Witcher, Commander Shepard in Mass Effect etc) that do let you make your "own" character in terms of how you want to play and how you level up but they still do not fully represent "you". Voice acting in games like those works but it wouldn't be ideal for Fallout 4.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. It's not going to happen guys. If we are allowed to customize our characters, I don;t think it's going to happen.

I wouldn't worry about it. It was part of the teaser trailer, and that doesn't mean that that's even your actual player. I wouldn't mind a voiced protagonist, but the Fallout series has always benefited from a silent protagonist because it allows you to build your own character and immerse yourself in the game as that character.

I'll only accept a voiced protagonist if one of the female voices is done by Jennifer Hale and I can make her sound like a complete smart ass to everyone in the game.

Well, based on their previous RPG games I would be surprised if they have a voice protagonist. Even if they did I don't think it would change much, besides hearing the words you chose them to say or grunts during a fight. I think it would be fun to have a voiced protagonist and maybe we could even modify the pitch and such as well!! I think either way, it wouldn't ruin the game for me.

I don't think we'll be getting a voiced protagonist, but if they are going to do it, then they need to do something like Dragon Age, where they had the player choose which voice actor they want their player to be, because without that then all we'll have is a male voice, and a female voice. Boring.

I'm not really looking for a voiced protagonist but it would be a nice addition eitherway. They kind of teased us but I'm really doubtful, we probably won't get one.

A voiced protagonist would be nice but they would need a wide range of voices for character customization. Perhaps being able to choose your own voice like other RPGs have allowed you to do. I wouldn't mind if it didn't involve voiced protagonists either, but it would be a nice addition.

Well, weren't they going nuts about "THE PROTAG HAS A VOICE!!!" during the E3 reveal? I dunno, I don't mind that the protag has a voice. Though it might only be for important cut scenes, and not the entire game. Though I agree with Snake (lol) and that for general sounds (like exertion sounds and etc) they should let us have a little bit of choice.

I wouldn't mind either way. As long as I have the choices I see no problem with the character being voiced or not.

I wouldn't mind, so long as a) You get to pick their voice, and b) There's no in-conversation dialogue. Grunts and combat noises only, please, and perhaps greetings and farewells when you talk to vendors. It would start to feel too much like a BioWare game if you received fully-scripted situations. I prefer the full level of immersion rather than playing a customized, but still largely-determined, character.

I'd rather not. I want the most liberty I can have with my character, and having voice acting would take away from that. Not to mention this would make quest mods very awkward and disconnected from the base game.

I wouldn't really mind it. They teased about it so it very well could be happening.

Unfortunately it's confirmed that the main character has voice acting.
The good thing is that they chose good voice actors, I especially like the one they chose for the female character.

But my opinion is that I would've preferred if there weren't any for your character. It makes for a disconnection between you and your character and since Fallout is a role playing game it doesn't really complement the genre that much.

I think the voice actor for the male protagonist isn`t half bad, judging by the trailers and gameplay videos that I have seen. I am curious about the female voice actor as well. All in all, I think a fully voiced main character is a good idea, and gives a Mass Effect touch to Fallout.

That's why Mass Effect is one of the games where I don't feel like I'm the main character BECAUSE Shepard has voice acting. I always felt like I was controlling a character that wasn't me.
