What are everyone's theories on what happened to the main character's family?

I haven't really thought about it because I've been caught up in how I'm going to play the game and theories about how the character survived 200 years, but what does everyone think happened to the wife/husband and kid? I was really hoping that it would turn out that you could find them again in the wasteland (maybe as Ghouls), but when they announced romance options I started to doubt that. I'm really hoping they don't leave it as they are just dead, or they didn't make it into the vault; I would love if they made it part of the main story (even if it's just the kid you end up finding or looking for). What does everyone else think?

I think that the protagonist is just the grandchild of the player you play as at the beginning, and that the starting characters, eg. the mother and father are already dead.

That is actually an interesting theory, I never thought about it this way. I would love if they could implement a story as to what actually happened with them in the game, though I think they're not gonna bother.

They got kidnapped or something, and they went in cryosleep for 200 years. And the main character has to find them and... he was in cryosleep too. That's what I think. :D

Your theory is interesting, but I'd like to think (like the person above) that there's some kind of cryosleep deal going on. Playing as the person you saw in the flashback would add a lot more to the background of the character which many Fallout games haven't done well (OK Fallout 3 had you grow up but that didn't add anything to the story).

I'm for the cryosleep theory. Though maybe everyone who got into the vault went into cryosleep, but all of the pods malfunctioned except the protag's? Or maybe the other way around! Everyone else is asleep, but THEIR pod malfunctioned and woke them up, but no one else. And the protag can't let anyone else out for some reason.

Or the protag was the only one who made it in the vault, or their family got killed on their way to it. We all know SOMETHING tragic must have happened...

When the main character tripped into the TARDIS (somehow), their family tried to follow but the doors slammed shut in their faces and threw itself into time, leaving them to be cause in a nuclear blast.

Yes, I will be using my TARDIS theory on how the main character survives for 200 years until the game comes out and the truth is revealed, even if it won't change my fanfic stories:D

Though half of that is obvious Doctor Who, the other half reminds me of the beginning of the new Godzilla movie, when Bryan Cranston's wife gets locked in the nuclear fallout and dies horribly while he watches. What a happy movie that was.

I'm leaning more towards cryo-sleep, but the notion of generations passing is pretty nifty too. Still... probably cryo-sleep.

I've never seen the Godzilla movie, so I will just have to take your word on that. Is the movie any good or will I waste my time and money trying to see it.

I thought the new Godzilla movie was fine, it probably could've been better with less human drama and more Godzilla scenes, though. :p

About the topic of the conversation, you better watch about guys because the game got leaked and there are spoilers everywhere on the internet. :p Fortunately there are only a few days left before the game's out.

I'm currently too busy playing Project Zomboid (gotta build a working farm and well for my super base) to care about looking at leaked information about Fallout 4. Still I just want to know how games keep getting leaked like this. You would think people working on the game would have better security but sheesh...

I think there is a chance that we might encounter them in the wasteland. Maybe they survived as well. As for the Romance option excluding this possibility. I think that has nothing to do with it. The main character has no idea that his spouse might have survived and maybe you can romance your spouse as well, who knows?
