    What are your top then characters? Mine are: 1. Aragorn 2. Legolas 3. Gimli 4. Gandalf 5. Eomer 6. Gollum 7. Saruman 8. The Witch King 9. Faramir 10. Merry

    Where is the respect for the hobbits? I have to disagree. Here's my top 10:
    1. Bilbo
    2. Gandalf
    3. Frodo
    4. Aragorn
    5. Theoden
    6. Eowyn
    7. Samwise
    8. Boromir
    9. Merry
    10. Pippin

    I love Faramir, but come on, he's a little TOO perfect - just like all the elves. I prefer my heroes to be flawed. I also feel lousy about leaving Legolas & Gimli off the list, but there are just too many great characters in the tale to include them all.

    1. Tom Bombadil has to take my top spot just because of the power and mystery surrounding him. I know he is a minor character in terms of story time but he has always fascinated me since I read the books. He captivated me even more when I started to read people's theories about him and Tolkien's own writings about his ambiguity.

    Top two are Gandalf and Gimli. Gandalf definitely reigns supreme and the rest couldn't have done it without him.
