What do you think is the most useless item in the world of Minecraft?

I'm first going to go through an item that's irritated me for a very long time, but is so far unobtainable. What irritates me about the item is that it's been around for a very prolonged amount of time with pretty much no changes to it whatsoever - the sponge.

The Sponge has got to be the most useless item in the game, mostly because it's not used for anything other than decorating and that's only if you're feeling crazy. Looking back at a few of the older updates, the sponge's ability to soak up a bit of water was pretty useful at times, and quite fun as well.

Now, for an actually obtainable series of items that are in the game - The Stone, Iron, Golden and Diamond Hoe!
All of these are absolutely pointless because unlike the other tool upgrades - they only increase the durability.

 

Just wait until the next snapshot! Sponges will be way more than useless, they will be useful!

 

While that hasn't really been much of an issue in the game itself, it's still rather irritating keeping in mind how long it has been since the day it was released.

The sponge block isn't really as useless as the air block, but the air block can't really be in your inventory, or at least I'm not aware of anything like that.

I'm still glad to know that they're actually adding some sort of use for it the next snapshot, it really needed it.

 

I do agree as well. I tried to use the sponge after I obtained it from creative mode and it did absolutely nothing. WHy don't they make a crafting recipe for it, at least? It doesn't make any sense to leave it in there like that.

 

Mushrooms. They do have a use but they're harder to find than a random cow you can slaughter. There have been very few times where I've made mushroom soup. It's just easier to make bread from your wheat farm or eat meat. It fills you up just as much or more.

 

Its definitely the weather followed closely by the skeletons. I don't know why they are so bothersome to me but they are.

 

Herobrine, yup, definitely Herobrine. He's pretty useless. You did ask for an item though, so I'd have to go with.... bedrock. It'd be cool if you could just dig all the way down to the very bottom into another "hell" world.

 

The most useless item in my opinion is without a doubt a diamond hoe. It costs two diamonds and the cost:use effective ratios are terrible. Remember kids, never spend diamonds on a hoe.

 

Probably all the gold armour/tools. They are worse than iron and iron is much more common so they are pretty useless.

 

Need mushrooms for fermented spider eyes to corrupt night vision potions into invisibility potions so you can sneak into your friend's house and steal all their good stuff, then walk up behind them empty handed and switch to your enchanted diamond sword and kill them and lol.

 

How can you say those Hoes are useless! I usually plant huge fields of wheat to live off of and there is nothing more annoying than trying to do that with a wooden hoe, that is what those upgrades are good, so you don't have to have ten wooden hoes in your inventory.

 

Gold armor, it's just so weak and pointless.
Other than that probably a dirt block, just because they are so abundant.

 

All the gold armor and tools, they're really kind of pointless and so weak. The only time I use them is if I get them from a zombie and I don't have anything else, otherwise I just don't.

 

Probably gold. It really can't do much. I don't really bother with rails, and the tools and armor are so weak you might as well not bother with them at all.

 

Gold is actually very useful. It is renewable and good for potions. It's GREAT for enchanting. You have never seen a gold pickaxe with unbreaking IV and silk touch. Pop that out, get an iron pick with fortune 3, and you will get to shower in diamonds.

Gold sword with fire aspect, sharpness, and looting is also fantastic in PvP.

 

If you're going to add enchantments like that, then a wooden sword (or even a stick) could be just as good

 

Gold junk.. it's pretty crap compared to the other stuff you can make..

 

Gold. It doesn't seem to be useful unless you want to build something really shiny.

 

Note Blocks/ Jukeboxes in single player survival.
It's just way too expensive to get all the requirements to build anything better than a doorbell with note blocks, and I've been playing in the same world for about 2 years now and only have 4 CD's. One of them was used up to build the Jukebox, and it's not very usable, due to it being in a mansion where I hardly spend any time.
