What do you think of Microsoft buying Minecraft?

I'm not sure how to feel about it myself. Should be interesting at the very least.

I see nothing wrong with it at all. I would imagine Microsoft will dump a ton of money into more development and provide a much needed boost to the game and game play. Plus Minecraft will probably come bundled with Microsoft products and be widely available to those who may not even know it exists. New blood is always a good thing.

Well of course. I mean who is going to refuse a huge wad of cash like that? I don't see it as a bad thing at all. There isn't much Microsoft can do to really "break" the game per se.

I'm on the fence about it. I've run across people saying it was a bad move for one reason or another. I'm just going to wait and see where Microsoft takes the game. Hopefully they'll work on improving the source code - the game is probably in dire need of more code optimization. One of the problems from this will be with the mod developers. I imagine Microsoft will be a bit less happy with modders than Notch and the Mojang development team.

It's kind of weird for Microsoft to buy Mojang. Notch has mentioned a dislike for large corporations, if I'm not mistaken. From what I've been told, this purchase happened because Notch didn't want to be responsible for leading a company that had a global effect. I get the feeling he just wants to make games, and there's no shame in that.

Honestly, I think it's bad to be honest. Considering the montization of the console versions I'm really worried they are going to do that to the PC version and discontinue the versions on other consoles.. Microsoft really hasn't had alot of strong support for the PC gaming community for the last few years..

I don't really care if the Microsoft bought minecraft. I think it will be the same but I know it will have some changes in the future. Hell, if I'm Notch I'll accept that money.

I don't see a problem with it. I mean, MS evil as they are, knows what they're doing so I think if they don't f**k this one up Minecraft would be on the next level. And as for the fear of MC being exclusive well I don't think MS will trade in sales and revenue just for the exclusivity. Just be happy that EA didn't bought the game.

They bought franchise and Mojang for a LOT of money and being in Notch's place, anyone would have taken the 2.5 million dollar offer from Microsoft. And there is nothing bad in that, they will probably push a lot of cash into the series, make it even more popular, expand creatively and artistically on it because they recognize the massive popularity it has garnered over the years. Maybe even a long awaited HD remake in parallel with a sequel? Remains to be seen.

I think it's not something to worry about but I'm also kind of worried because, well it's Microsoft, they have a history of f**ck ups in the last few months. But it's still good news because now we can be sure that some developments will be made to the game, I hope.

I don't know what to think. I just hope that they will keep supporting the game across all platforms and not keep the game as their exclusive.

Well, I don't like it, to be honest. I thing it will be bad for the game itself, as well as for the community. But we can't know for sure. The worst thing that can happen would be in-game micro transactions. If they play their cards right, Minecraft could gain a lot. New features, new mods etc. We should wait an see.

I'm not happy, I'm especially sad because Notch left, to me having the creator of Minecraft leave is a big blow, I wonder if it was some argument or if he's just enjoying an early retirement with his millions.

As Notch said, it was not about money, it was about his sanity. This game became a bit too much for him to handle. It's pretty clear that this guy doesn't like the limelight. It's a big responsibility for Microsoft as well.

I don't think it will turn out to be anything bad. The game is gaining a lot of revenue as it is and Microsoft is smart enough not to drastically change the game. They sure would want to keep the game going, so I would expect them to be constantly churning out updates. I'm actually somewhat optimistic about it as Microsoft is a big company and they could probably make bigger updates in smaller a amount of time.

In a way it is pretty sad that Notch left :( but on the other hand, it's a good thing that a company like Microsoft bought Minecraft.
I think we will see some improvements on the game, I don't think it will go downhill. This change it's only for the good and I'm sure Microsoft know what they're doing!
