What do you think of the new dialog wheel during conversations?

I'm bringing this up because I saw people arguing about this and I'd like to hear your opinion about it.

We all saw the new dialogue wheel that Bethesda put in Fallout 4, do you like it as it is or would you rather have the old dialogue choices that was present in the older games?

I honestly would've preferred if they kept the old dialogue tree from Fallout 3 and New Vegas. The way it works in 4 doesn't make much sense to me because you don't know fully what your character is going to say, the answers you can choose are described in a couple of words and don't show the entire sentence instead, and you don't know if it's going to be said in the same way you're thinking, plus the fact that there's voice acting means that the delivery of the sentence may differ from what you're thinking in your head.

But I don't know, that's just me. Are you fine with how the dialogues are in Fallout 4?

I think the new dialogue wheel will take a while for me to get used to. You do make a good point in the unknown of short sentence structure. I had that problem in Dragon Age: Inquisition where some of the choices seemed good but totally caught me off guard in tone and how harsh it was when I wasn't trying to be.

That's the exact example I was thinking about. That and the Mass Effect games. It's weird because the first Dragon Age didn't have that problem, neither did Fallout 3.

Mass Effect was a bit easier to tell with "diplomatic, neutral and ruthless" just like Dragon Age 2 with "diplomatic, sarcastic and aggressive" once getting into the game after a while. Somehow, only those personalities are included. Dialogue is hard to pull off in a RPG game, someone always wants a certain personality. :p I'd like to see special dialogue based on perks for Fallout. That would be amazing.

I'm not sure what to think about it, but the dialog wheel is something that can be much better than the old dialogue tree once we get used to it. We'll have to play and see. :p

But I hate those kinds of answers. :p That's exactly my problem: I'd like to know what my character is going to say. Dialogue is so easy to pull off, Fallout 3 did it like nothing, just write the entire sentence so I can read what I'm going to say. :D

Yeah, that is a little awkward. Mass Effect immediately comes to mind, and I hope our character isn't pigeon-holed into those same archetypes. That would make role-playing a lot more difficult, but not impossible. I feel like a lot of this will come down to getting a feel for what sort of shortened answer translates to the longer replies we're aiming for, and that is only a matter of time.

I am not a fan of the new system, for many of the same reasons above! Would much rather have the old tree system back.

I love the dialogue wheel and also, that your persuade options are highlighted. Besides the fact that it reminds me of Mass Effect (and that is a good thing) it is also practical and one of the things older Fallout games sorely lacked.

You could persuade in the older games, too. And they were highlighted because it always said which requirement was needed to use that particular choice of dialogue. :p

I like it as in it is always the same type of choices. I can see the above comments being a probem, as you don't fully se what he will say. But the choices are alwayss the same prety much. Up Is usually a question. Left is usually a smart ass comment. Right is usually a mean comment. And down is the nice, what most people, would say. U are pretty safe that if you press down, you wont offend anyone

I know you could, and that they showed you which skill was used to do that. But in the new Dialogue Wheel, they actually highlight the persuasion options and show you the chances you have when doing it. I`m not sure the older games showed you how much chance you had to persuade someone, but this way, I can always make up my mind if I actually want to go for it or not. :D

I prefer the older system by far, for the reasons mentioned above.

The newer dialogue wheel fits the 'Tales of the' games where you can pretty much intuitively tell what and where the options are going to lead up to.

The older dialogue option shines in comparison as it gives us more choices and we know what our character is going to say.

However, I love the voice acting (really dependent on personal opinion) so personally, the newer dialogue is much better.

Not too much of a fan. It doesn't show you the full dialogue beforehand like 3 and new vegas, even if you mouse over it. It's a huge problem with things such as the option "sarcastic". I'm hoping for a mod that will allow you to see what the character will say after choosing a dialogue option, the current system is a bit crap.

I saw some screenshots of the game and the new dialogue wheel reminds me of the dialogue system of The Sims series, lmao. I prefer the older ones. I want to say that it's probably just me, but I've read a lot of people complaining about it. And rightfully so.

I agree. Especially about the "sarcastic" option. I mean what does "sarcastic" EVEN MEAN? It's an ADJECTIVE. You never know if it's a negative or positive answer, just that it's "sarcastic". And yes, for those who haven't played it yet, choosing "sarcastic" isn't just cracking wise, you're actually making a choice that you don't know what'll be before actually choosing it. It's actually a risk to choose sarcastic, because you don't know what that entails. It's effing stupid, pardon the French.

But usually in The Sims you have more than four choices when you interact with people. :p

I found the dialogue system lacking compared to previous games. I avoid sarcastic because I have no idea what's coming out. Maybe in another playthrough with a villain type, sure! The dialogue system isn't terrible, per se. It's just the amount of detail put in previous games was better.

Ha! That's another one of it's flaws, I suppose. I think the dialogue wheel could actually look nice and be better overall if we had more options. I think one of the reasons it worked for The Sims is because they have more options than Fallout does - if I remember correctly, The Sims always have at least five or six options unless you're interacting with objects like chairs and paintings. Four options are far too little for the design, and it's just pointless.

I'm okay with it, but I agree that is has the same flaw as the Dragon Age dialogue trees. You attempt to be nice or comforting, and end up being nasty or down putting. I don't like when it fucks up my persuasion attempts, because I was accidentally a bitch when I meant to sweet talk them.
