What do you think of the recently confirmed Telltale Minecraft game?

While I haven't been active in the minecraft gaming community in the last few months, I'm just unsure if Minecraft will work as a narrative-driven game. I mean, it is a game about just building and upgrading your armor to be unstoppable, pretty much.

While I am excited to see what comes of this game, I am just unsure of how a story will work in minecraft. Telltale Games have definitely made some great games in the past few years. I'm a fan of their Walking Dead series and the Game of Thrones which recently came out. I have no doubt that this Minecraft game is in good hands and I'd love to see how this one plays out. Any thoughts?

I'm actually ok with this. Telltale game is amazing for telling stories. I wonder how will they put this game to have a story. I can't imagine it. I'm excited as hell.

Oh, I think Minecraft is in the best hands to make a game like this possible. I think that my worries are for nothing even. But one does wonder how they'll make a game like Minecraft have a story.

I suppose Minecraft, right now, has a story. The story being that you wake up with nothing, and end up killing monsters like the Ender Dragon, or the Wither Boss.

I'm a bit indifferent, I don't know how this can turn out. Although, seeing their previous games, TWAU is amazing, I don't see why I'm worrying that much.

I don't really care, but there are plenty of things you could do with the game to give it a story. TellTale is perhaps the best option to make this game succeed.

Personally, I don't think I will play the game. But, putting that aside, I think it is awesome for Mojang to stretch thier options Minecraft-wise. Collaborating with Tell-Tale is definitely the best route to go with, and who knows, if its a success maybe I will give it a try!

I'm in the same boat. Along with Divbyxero, however, I think I will not be buying the game but I'll most likely check out gameplays on YouTube and see for myself whether I'll get it or not.
The game is still a long way from being done most likely, and there's a whole year ahead of us to make that decision!

I have no idea about what to expect. I've enjoyed ALL of TellTale's games so far, but, if anything, I think this might be their first project to end up as a failure.

I am genuinely curious to see where it goes. I love all of Telltales games to date, I am just not sure how they plan to go with this. I am sure it will turn out great but I am not sold on the idea just yet.

I love the telltale games that have come out already. I bought the telltale collection on Steam and have played through every single telltale game out there. From Sam and Max to Monkey Island to The Walking Dead to The Wolf Among Us to Wallace and Gromit to Puzzle Agent. Played them all. The prospect of my favourite developers and my favourite game merging was, don't get me wrong, titillating at the first thought of it. Then I began to question the logistics. Would they try and use the non-existent 'lore' in minecraft, or build their own one and just use the minecraft character style, which would seem entirely superficial and like a money-grab to me. Regardless, I'm going to buy it unless I see horrible reviews, in which case I will wait until a steam sale and get it for 75% off

This is the first I'm hearing of this! I like minecraft, and like you said its not really a story game, but I think it could be really cool. Instead of adding to the story like most telltale games, it will just create the story in the first place. I love all of the telltale games in general, so I'm sure it will be really cool!

I'm pretty concerned that Telltale seem to be taking on projects based purely on their popularity rather than their narrative potential... Minecraft has none of the latter. Borderlands didn't really fit what they do either, but they at least had something to work with. I don't think this will turn out well.

I think it sounds fun. I would love to try it even though I know nothing about it at all!

I think it would be AWESOME! Basically a story mode to Minecraft. Originally, the game was made to be a sandbox game of survival and building. Now, they've upgraded it to everything!

Don't care if it's a cash cow or not, TELLTALE is one studio I enjoy regardless of the content they put out because they have a unique way of telling it that hooks you in every time.

I am ok with this but I also wonder how this will work as you said Minecraft is a sandbox, you decide how the game goes, not the developer. It simply does not add up.

I think this would be a great addition to an already great game. Minecraft as it stands is already quite a time killer, but I would love to see the game have more features. Note that I would prefer these features as optional things to setup when creating a new game.

I think it'll appeal to a lot of people and a lot of people it won't. It depends on what someone's priorities are when they play. I like it the way it is now, but that's just me.
