What got you started in Minecraft?

When I first heard of Minecraft, I thought it was pretty dumb. It had no storyline, no objectives but just blocky graphics where you could do whatever. I heard a lot about it however and I didn't understand at the time why it was so popular. One day, I stumbled across the wiki and found that the game had a lot to it. A few days later, I was bored and decided to watch a few videos. This got me interested and I eventually gave it a try.
I reckon it was just the concept that you create anything with little restriction was what interested me enough to give it a shot.

Oh boy here we go again. I started Minecraft when I was in college. A friend of mine told me about the game and I thought it sucked and it's boring but turns out it's one of the most addicting games I've ever played

A couple of friends were bugging me for a couple months to play Minecraft. I wasn't interested at first because I thought the graphics were terrible. Eventually, I gave in and played with them one day. I was hooked ever since.

Well.. I knew about Minecraft before I started to play, it was just that I didn't have who to play with.
Then a friend of mine started and I felt that this game is for kids. After some time I started to play with him and I really started to enjoy it.
Now, today, after three years, I still play it and I love it!

My daughter introduced it to me, ever since I have been playing, often multiplayer mode. It is funny to play together and I think it is what caught me.

My friends kept telling me about it around 2011 and I was reluctant to try it and one eveningwe were talking on skype and they introduced me to it. I loved the faux old school feel of it, the game mechanics the brilliant aspect of constructing and building everything you want or need, building houses, tools, weapons, armour, fighting monsters at night, build defenses and structures at day, really awesome and I just got hooked.

I'm pretty sure the way I discovered Minecraft was by a friend's status on Skype: "I play Minecraft now", so I researched it and discovered that it was a cool looking RPG like game, so I bought it. I had a blast not knowing what to do, so I watched SeaNanners Lets Play series on it and pretty much just did it exactly what he did, which is also the way I discovered SeaNanners. Awesome game :)

They way people described it to me, it sounded awesome! They was talking about multi-colored sheep and awesome portals to alternate dimensions with pig men inside. They also told me about the aether mod which sounded too good to miss!

About a year ago my friend gave me her copy of the alpha and I was hooked instantly. I never really understood how to play the game at first but once I got the hang of it I was building castles and dungeons left and right.

I guess most people started Minecraft because they thought it was really cool and was introduced to it by somene then. :)

Its true my friend who is really into new and indie type games was playing it since early pre-alpha when all you could do was chop down trees and make a basic sword and pickaxe and stuff like that. So then he and another friend got it and they told the concept of it was genious and though I was skeptical at first, when i tried it I realized they were right and I was completely hooked.

Some of my friends were playing it, and I wanted to play some games with them, so I had a look at it, and after a while I got way more into the game than they did, and rented a server for us all to play on around the time 1.0 came out. Game's come a long way since then, but I still got a server :p (Although I believe the world is either 1.6 or 1.7 generation).

My friends pushed me quite aggressively to play. It was cheap at the time, so I got it and played with them. It was quite fun, I liked the creative aspect.

My cousin told me to play this last year but I thought that the graphics are a bit not my type. And when I saw SeaNanners played this game a long time ago I thought I should give this a chance. And then, I started playing this game for days.

I thought it was pretty stupid when it first came out, just one of those fad games. I only started playing it because my cousin has it on her ipad, and she is addicted to just building things, I downloaded the lite version, and I liked it enough to buy PE, and then I got it for the PC, and it is addictive!

To be very honest, my nieces got me into the game, they kept asking me if I played and I thought it was incredibly stupid, I mean, all you do is basically build things out of blocks, right? How could that possibly be fun. But, nope, I ended up getting completely hooked on the game. The first time I played, I ended up playing for about 8 or 9 hours straight. I couldn't believe how much I loved the game. It's come a long way in just the year I've been playing.

I started playing after watching some LP's of it. It looked fun, so I bought it, but never got any use of it. It wasn't until I discovered my friends had it that I started playing it more frequently.
