What happened to APB?

I thought some other dev picked it up and was working on improving the game a fews years back after it failed initially?

As far as I know the game is still "alive". I see ads and articles about the game every now and then, so I assume that there are still quite a few people who play it. To be honest I never found the game appealing. Other than the name nothing called to me than again I was never into games like GTA.

It's APB which stands for All Points Bulletin. It's an MMO much like GTA Online but it did horribly. I think the game got shut down not long after but brought back online later by another company. I not too clear on the details since it's been a couple of years.

APB still exists in the form of APB Reloaded <--(Steam link); it is currently free to play. It's worth the price and a good way to kill a few hours, but it isn't a game that I see myself playing in the long-term. The community is very small, and honestly I don't think the game mechanics are very much fun.

Right that's it. I was referring to APB Reloaded, I just forgot about the subtitle. So it still exists, I thought it's been quiet for so long it's dead already. There is zero coverage of it made me believe that it was shut down.

I lost interest once the original version came out and was horribly broken, how is the new Reloaded? Any good?

The game was re-launched as APB Reloaded when it found a new publisher after it's initial decline, and a pretty decent amount of people still play it thanks to it being hosted on Steam.

However it still suffers from a ton of issues that prevent it from being taken seriously. The only people who play it are 13 year olds with their parents credit cards who buy the best cash shop weapons. Here's a breakdown of the biggest issues.

    1. It is incredibly pay-to-win.
Pay-to-win meaning if you don't spend any money on the better weapons from the cash shop, you are going to lose to the players who have them. There is just that big of a difference in the stats of the weapons. And yes, you can earn these weapons simply by playing the game, but it's going to take a loooooooooong time to earn enough money for them. Oh, and once you do finally get enough dough it will expire after a week.

    2. Terrible lag
Frequently there are spurts of laggy teleporting making the game unplayable for a couple minutes. When that doesn't happen, the game has absolutely terrible hit detection and latency so getting your hits to register before you die is nigh impossible. Needless to say the only way to get kills is by purchasing a high damage weapon from the cash shop and gank someone before they get the chance to start firing back.

    3. Terrible game engine
The version of Unreal Engine 3 that this game is built off of has terrible memory leaks that source all the way back to its base code. In other words there is no permanent way to patch and fix them, so this game uses a ton of memory. You will need at least 8 gb of memory in order to play without crashes and be unaffected by the huge memory leak that almost every player suffers from. This game eats up your computers resources like a pig on slop.

    4. Lack of content
The only thing they have added to the game since its release a few years ago are cash shop items like weapons and clothing, with the occasional holiday event to replace the standard PvP. That's it. Once you do all of the basic point defending missions in the game, there's literally nothing left to do.

This game is basically just the product of a new publisher taking a mangled game and pushing it to be their cash cow to draw in the money of pre-teens who will play for a couple months, spend all of their allowances on it, then quit from boredom.

Don't bother with this game. It is a far cry from a real grand theft auto MMO.

Like everyone's stated above it's APB Reloaded now. The game, however, is severally lacking in many aspects. I've personally found there to be way to many hackers. Aside from that if you're not planning to spend $$ then you should probably avoid this game lol. Playing every now and then isn't too bad, but I could never see myself playing APB daily.
