I had someone recently describe it to me as like a BC era WoW.

What I'd like to know is how true is that? Are the higher end raids basically only done by the elite few? Do you have to farm for consumables and that sort of thing?

As someone that used to play Vanilla WoW, LOTRO is almost exactly the same. I love this game! It's extremely fun, classic, and original. If you love LOTR lore, this game is a must. It's also great for those that enjoy quality MMOs that are very similar to Vanilla WoW! They offer free-to-play accounts now. Give it a go, try it out, and then maybe upgrade to premium status. I really recommend it. :)

It's kind of like WoW, but most people who play the game say that it's better. I think it has raids like WoW but it uses tokens instead of random chance gear drops as the main reward. You get a certain amount of tokens per raid, and you save up those tokens to trade in for the best gear. Better system than WoW's I think. Everyone who participates gets rewarded.

Agreed. It's a much better thought-out game than WoW. You always get compensated for what you do. It still requires skill however, lol.. and hasn't completely adopted the idea of noob-friendly gameplay (unless they spend TONS of real money to buy gear).

I played with a group of friends and we had no idea what was going on. There's so much content in that game that I bet most people don't even know exist. Stuff like crafting guilds, secret areas, raids etc. I played that game for close to a year and all I'm familiar with are the quests.

LOTRO is a little like WoW, but I find the interface much more user friendly and enjoyable. It's really easy to start fellowships. The only detraction I have is that the world chats are often empty, which creates a lonely feeling to the game. Playing with people I know is easy but finding new friends to quest with can be difficult at times, as people often play at their own pace.

I find it very similar to WoW, the main difference being that it is in Middle-Earth. This made it much more worth playing to me! They generally do a good job at filling the world and giving it a very good feeling to people who like either the books or the movies. The world has a very nice flavor and although the graphics aren't amazing technically, I really liked the art design.

Another thing that reminds me of WoW is the dungeons and boss encounters. A lot of thoughtful WoW-like mechanics were implemented into encounters, raids, and dungeons (for instance, The Forsaken Inn final boss).
