What is your favorite material for tools?

My favorite material is iron, it is common, but it can mine most ores and is still durable enough for you to not have to spend too much inventory space carrying spares of your current tools. I use diamond occasionally, but it is overall too expensive for me to use all the time, and I only use it for things that need diamond, not regular ores. Stone and wood are common also, but take too long to mine and are not nearly durable enough for the job.

Yes, I agree that Iron tools tend to work the best. Although for shovels I usually just use stone since an iron shovel barely digs any faster than a stone shovel. After I craft all of my diamond armor and save up some extras, then I will start using diamond tools as kind of a luxury. For the most part though I prefer to stick with iron like you.

I like servers where diamonds are plentiful, and then I can just use diamonds until I go broke. Otherwise, has to be iron. Fast enough, but not too expensive.

Diamonds are a given, but given the way Minecraft works, I would say Iron is the best compromise between durability and amount. I often enchant Iron tools to help me mine and cut things down faster and enchant other gear to help improve my armour and such. I never ever enchant stone stuff because they break really easily, but I do make stone items the majority of the time since stone is so plentiful.

I would have to say Iron, I find diamonds are to scarce and iron works pretty fast aswell. I would use diamonds only when I'm going on a raid with my frinds or if I'm feeling rich all of a sudden.

Well, I've always used diamond pickaxes with enchantments on them, but other than that I would use iron pickaxes, because I always seemed to have stacks worth of it after an underground mining trip.

Yeah, Iron just balances out the ratio of rarity and durability, it is quite common, but it isn't that durable, but since it's so common you can just make like 5 pickaxes for a mining trip.

Cool! I thought everyone was on the diamond train, but I guess I'm normal. I also like iron. It looks great, sounds great, works great, and is common enough that I don't feel terrible about using it up. I only use diamonds for things that really require it, like an enchantment table, and save my extras for future projects that might need them. I don't mind using stone as a material for tools either, but I despise using wood.

I generally use iron tools, except for a diamond pickaxe. After I have enough diamonds, I'll stick to strictly diamond tools besides the hoe.

Diamond pickaxe and sword, maybe shovel. The rest can be iron which is way more plentiful and for tools like the hoe it's not a tool that needs a lot of durability.

I always carry around a diamond sword, the other tools are usually made of iron. When caving, I bring the diamond silk touch pick with me and use level 1 enchanted iron pick for mining the rest of the ores. After I get a nice amount of diamonds, I simply use diamond tools, because they are faster and more durable.

Iron is easy to find, so that's what I use the most, but my favorite is diamond.
    Reason: it mines anything!

Gold is hilarious to use, because of how fast it is and how terrible it is at durability. I compensate for this by carrying 3 times the golden tools. Sure, in comparison to diamond tools, gold is a LOT less durable, but it mines faster.

Although the joke is that you need iron to mine gold, you can't mine gold with gold.

Gold is very expensive and rare, finally found someone who actually uses gold. Gold is pretty much neglected in terms of how tools go, it would be nice if more people started to use gold.

For me to use gold it would need to last a lot longer than it does, or be more common.

In the initial stages of getting ready in the game, I prefer to use iron. It's an abundant resource and it gets the job done quite easily. It's very easy to get too and has a good amount of durability on it.

However, once I have iron tools I go on a diamond hunt with an iron pick, because they are just too worth it. The durability on diamonds just can't be matched. The thing I do is get a diamond pick, level up to around level 20 or 30, and get the highest enchant I can on it.

It leaves me with the best pickaxe in the game, with the highest amount of durability, with an enchant that will probably be useful for me. Win-win!

    Diamonds are great for long
You can break gold tools easily, right? And you would need xp and a enchanting table to make the gold tools atleast somewhat useful to you.

I would have to say my favorite material would be iron. Iron is extremely common in the game, so its an great early-game material that will still be useful during the whole time you are playing.

Enchanted diamond is really awesome once you get to that point in the game. For economy's sake though, I'd have to say iron. It's abundant and still fairly durable. If it's enchanted, it makes it that much better. So I'd have to say my favorite is diamond, but it's just too precious a material to use all the time.

I usually use iron, but if I have a large amount of diamonds, I'll use it. Iron is what I mostly have overall since it's plentiful in most areas.

I am a fan of stone when building tools because most of the time when you first start out, Iron is kind of hard to find. When things get going though I go for the diamonds and iron.
