What MMO would you play if World at Warcraft didn't exist?

I would probably be playing The Repopulation, from what I have seen, it has similar mechanics to Star Wars Galaxies, my favorite MMO of all time, and one of my favorite games of all time. It is in closed alpha right now, but I bet I would have bought closed alpha access if I didn't have World at Warcraft.

So, what would you play if WoW didn't exist?

I've been eyeing Final Fantasy IV for a while now, and if I wasn't paying the subscription for World of Warcraft I would have gotten that game already. So, if I liked the first few hours of the game I would probably spend most of my MMO play time on Final Fantasy.

Well, besides WoW, I already play Aion, and I just started playing ArcheAge and Rift as well - so I might play one of those.

I'm already into Guild Wars 2, and I would totally play it if WoW didn't exist. It's such a great RPG, and it changes the course of usual mmorpgs and questing. It is also really fun to play with friends, and the quests aren't repetitive. The combat is also a lot more satisfying than WoW in my opinion, and the graphics are gorgeous.

I don't have a lot of time for MMOs right now. However, if WoW didn't exist, I actually might go and play Runescape again, just for kicks. I remember playing it in middle school, and I want to see how much it has changed since I last logged on. Maybe I can get some friends to join me as well :p

It's not like we don't play other MMOs on top of WoW, at least that's how I assume it is for most of us. Also, I'm assuming the second poster was talking about Final Fantasy XIV. I put quite a few hours into Guild Wars 2 each month, and i know countless individuals that play that one.

I would be playing Guild Wars 2 and give FF XIV Reborn a go. Guild Wars 2 is my PvP fix whereas WoW has always been my end game PvE fix.

If WoW wasn't a factor then I would probably spend all my time either playing Rift or The Old Republic, depending on whether I was on a Fantasy or a Sci-Fi mood. Those are both great games and worth playing even with WoW around.

I would probably become more immersed in that old Second Life game where nearly everything is user-made most likely. I like simulators and rpgs when it comes to 3dimensional games, and there's unfortunately not a whole lot of love from me for MOBA type MMO's.

I would be playing Rift as it's closely similar to World of warcraft, and even better in some ways (just my opinion of course).
If those two games didn't exist it would hands down be Silkroad Online. it's a free game that involves a lot of grinding but the skill trees, triangular trade conflict and special effects it has to offer makes it better then any other game i have seen out there.

DDO is the only MMORPG that can hold my attention except for WOW, probably because it is very different than WOW. The other major MMORPGs just seem too similar to WOW, but not as good as wow.

I'd definitely start playing Runescape, considering that that was the game that I had played for the majority of my life before picking up WoW.

As said by someone else, I would also start to play Runescape again, that was my savior back in the day.

Starcraft would be my second pick :) I actually like Starcraft better than WoW.

Starcraft has turned to absolute trash now. The community is toxic and Blizzard has no care or passion for the game. I dumped that game about a month ago because it caused me more stress than fun... but that's just my opinion

Well currently I am playing both WoW and Archage at the same time, so I guess if there was no WoW I would just be on Archage all the time regardless of really hating the pvp system. So many people have issues with WoW and I am guessing it's from some sort of personal experiance, probably picked the wrong server to go to.

Somebody would have stumbled across what made WoW great I imagine within a couple years.

EVE Online, obviously. It's paid, I know, but for the price you pay monthly, you get what you deserve, really.

Probably Wildstar. Or if World of Warcraft wouldn't have spawned so many clones, I'd probably still be playing Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne.
