What was your first MMO?

I know that many people will say WoW, but I'm curious as to what MMOs everyone "started off" with. My very first MMO was a game called Maplestory. I loved the game and still have some great real life friends I met through it!

My first MMO was Ragnarok Online which I played in late 2003 for about two months. Then a friend introduced me to WoW and that was my second. Prior to RO, I played a game called Metal Knights in 1999-2000, which is an online-only game against other players, but it wasn't MMO. It lacked the "massive" aspect of it.

I think my first one was actually wow, but without expansions, the "vanilla" one. It was super fun and it actually made me like MMO's a lot more.

Ragnarok Online was my first and will always hold fond memories. The amount of things to do in that game is starggering and it just got better and better after each patch. I didn't care for other MMOs even after playing others like Guild Wars and such, I always returned to RO for my MMO fix.

Does anyone here remember T4C (The Fourth Coming)? Gah, that thing. Classic hack and slash. When I think of how far games have come from that, it blows my mind.

I too started with Ragnorok Online and Maplestory a long time ago. At the time I did not know what MMO was but knew that I liked the games. Ever since, I have played almost every MMO that has been launched. Now I love all of them!

My first true MMORPG was Lineage 2. It was released around the same time as WOW. It has worse grinding (much harder to level up and gain gears), but it has much more realistic/superior graphics compare to WOW. Its pvp was the focus point of the game, and the best part of the PvP was castle siege which takes place every two weeks. During castle siege, first players form clans and alliances to take the castles from NPCs, then the other clans/alliances who also want these castles can attack too. We got hundreds (well organized into clans/alliances) players fighting against hundreds players on the battlefield of each castle siege. It was a massive battle scene.

After I finally got bored with Lineage 2, I tried many many other MMORPGs in hope of finding something new. I was disappointed to see all of them are very much alike including WOW. There is nothing special, once you played one of them, you have played all of them.

Talking about "not true" MMORPG, the first one I played was Neverwinter Nights (1). I was playing on a server where 72 slots were available, and 3 of such servers were connected together, so when all of them are full, there were over 200 players. It was like a mini-MMO.

I've played a few different ones, but not like WoW (haven't played that yet). I did Tribal Wars, Puzzle Pirates, Kingdom of Loathing (probably not a 'real' MMORPG, exactly). I have a friend who likes Halo and Call of Duty, but they're not my style.

Super generic for me, but WoW in Vanilla. I played through Wrath and a little bit into Cata, done hardcore raids and some arena-ing. Since I've played just about every similar MMO (Rift, TOR, Neverwinter, currently FFXIV, etc.) but nothing really captured the same thing. I think it's like losing your virginity; at the time it probably wasn't that good but looking back on it and always chasing a similar experience but always falling short... good times.

I was never into playing multiplayer games too much as a teenager so my first one was Runecraft. It was pretty fun back as a first mmo but I can't see myself coming back to the game. It's too grindy for my taste and I feel the nostalgia wouldn't be enough to play.

I can't quite remember my first MMO. I'm still trying to think about it, but I really can't remember because it was a really long time ago. But my favorite MMO is probably League of Legends. It's a pretty fun game that you can play by yourself or with your friends.

My first MMO was a game called BoomBang. It was basically just a social game where people would chat to each other and get furniture for their rooms. I think I was in sixth grade.

Well my first one was actually WoW. I actually played this game for a while before stopping and then went to something else. I liked WoW, but after a while I started looking for other games to play. I started when WoW was already being played though haha.

I don't have time for MMOs and I get bored quickly with the same old generic click-and-attack mechanism, so when I get one I don't play it for long.
Most MMOs don't have a compelling story or an actual end or goal you have to reach, other then grinding to the max level and that is just unappealing to me. There really is nothing that could compensate the lacking gameplay.
