Could be single player or multiplayer; which MMO/MMORPG was the first one you ever played, and introduced you to the genre?

I started off with Runescape. Good old, 2007 Runescape where drop parties were often and there were hundreds of people swarming Lumbridge or Varrock. I remember one of the hats was extremely rare, and people were always looking for them at drop parties. Anyways, I started playing Runescape with my brother because we wanted to find a good multiplayer game that doesn't require you to be on the same keyboard. After we found Runescape, we spent well over two years playing the game. It was fantastic for how the two years I played for, but unfortunately, both of our accounts got hacked. Ever since my experience with Runescape, I have looked for better MMO's to find one similar to it. ESO is my only hope so far.

I was not a big fan of MMOs up until I saw my friend playing RuneScape? I was not even mildly interested in that game until my friend invited me to play it. It was so addicting that I started visiting him often and ultimately persuaded my parents to buy a PC for me. That's when I embarked on my gaming journey. The very first game I ever played was RuneScape, a MMORPG. As a matter of fact, I have invested more than 1,000 hours of my life into this game.

I started with RuneScape as well. It was back in 2006 and I still play it from time to time.

The game is really phenomenal and I loved the community. The game has been on a bit of a downward curve lately, but hopefully the release of the new RuneScape 3 can bring in some new energy and much needed players.

Well, well well! It looks like most of us started out playing Runescape :D Istarted playing that game back in 2005, I continued playing until 2009. I remember the first time I bought the membership... I payed for 6 full months, and for me that game was like heaven! The first time I logged into a member server I was totally blown away :D I've the sweetest memories of that game...

It's such a shame the game has changed so much... a friend of mine told me that now they are some items that can only be bought with real money. He said this is happening because Runescape is no longer UK based. What a pity!

I started off playing Ragnarok Online and lasted me for four good years until bots completely destroyed the whole game. Ragnarok online was addicted and fun at the time. The guild war and PVP never fail to bring joy to me. It is such a shame and waste the bots destroyed the game and I also know a lot of other online games also infected with many bots.

Yeah, I have heard that they are planning a beta release now. Just hope that it arrives before 2014. I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

No lol. The beta was released and finished months back.

The game released a month back and even the new skill released this week finally. The HTML5 version is still in beta as it needs fine tuning. But other than that RuneScape 3 is officially here since a month.

Just like what appears to be the majority here in this thread, I started with runescape.

I had an amazing time. The skill mechanic was very interestingly done, and is still what I look for in mmos to this day. The music was something that I will always love, as it just kind of sounds magical and always fitting the location.

Although unfortunately, it's appeal has long wore off for me. But I will not forget the awesome times I've had with my friends chilling and playing together.

I guess my first MMO was Diablo II, even though I don't count it as a MMO

Realistically my first MMORPG was this game called Darkages. Which to this date is still my favorite game of all time. It had amazing world events, various forms of PVP, different worlds, subbing into multiple classes, advantages staying pure, and lots of Role Playing items. The thing that makes this game so special to me is besides the large map and various cities it had so many different aspects. Towns had there own goverments consisting of Guards(police), Guard Captains, Judges, and Demagogues (who made the laws). It had various religions people could become members of. The guilds were competative and it just had a community unlike any MMORPG i've ever played. I honestly wish I could go back to Darkages.

Ask a forum mod to gather this and the thread on the GW section with the same title, there is no point in having two separated threads about the same subject, with the same exact question man, people are going to repeat themselves :p.

Has it been released? My bad then lol. How did I miss it? Well, I will admit that it went under my radar somehow. I don't miss any game releases normally.

Thanks for telling me about it. I am off to check it out to see if it's any good.

No problem man! Most sites like IGN did have several articles on it when it released, but still I know it's not that big a game to get much coverage.

Anyways glad to be of help! Do tell me if you like it, and if you start playing it maybe you could join my clan? :p

And yeah, I would love to join your clan. What's its name?

Helbreath! Ohh it was so good back in the day. So very very very good. Then unfortunately it went from free to play to subscription so I stopped.

I started off on Grepolis. I can't remember when it was but it was years ago. The game play was terrible, but it was the first gen worlds and one of the first versions released. Then I went on to Runescape but my internet connection and computer wasn't so great and it was unenjoyable to play like that so I stopped. Nearly two years ago I got back on Grepolis, and things had changed dramatically. It was finally a great game from my perspective and I have been playing it every day since.

My first MMO was Ragnarok Online. It was a cute, 2D Korean game. The gameplay and storyline wasn't anything spectacular, but I made a lot of friends that I still keep in touch with after many years.

Ragnarok Online 2 was released recently, but it doesn't have the same impact on me as the first game.

There are quite a few members in your clan, but how come no one is active?

    Battlefield 2.
If that doesn't count, then Guild Wars 2. I've been a late-comer to the mmorpg world, and I think only GW2 and Neverwinter are what I've played.

BF 2 was mainly an online game, but since it allowed you to play offline, it's not a MMO. So yeah, Guild Wars 2 was your first MMO
