What would be the minimum video card for PC games?

Yep, as the title says, which card you think has the minimum specs for running modern PC games decently?

It'd be great to hear your inputs!

    Thanks in advance.

It would depend on the budget, but if you are not someone who must play everything on max setting, the GTX 750 or 750 Ti would be okay. If you can push your budget a bit more, the GTX 950 is excellent, and the 960 will be future-proof for a few years. I'm not including AMD cards because there are some problems with the games having specific settings for NVDIA not playing well with AMD; but if you prefer then get the R7 370 (4GB DDR5)

@shadejb , thanks a bunch, that was pretty much what I was looking for. Currently I have a 400W power supply with nothing more connected that the usual peripherals. Do you think 400W is enough to power the video card?

    Thanks again.

Been a while since I've built a PC, but there are other factors that contribute to what kind of wattage you need. Do you have a complete part list? pcpartpicker.com is really useful for these kinds of things.

750ti would be a pretty inexpensive and good card for most PC games, but I would suggest getting a good 500W power supply, even though you probably won't use all of its capacity. You'll probably need a better one in the future anyway, so bumping it up to at least 500W may be a good plan.

Depends on your CPU, mainboard and hard drive. Graphic cards like those normally go from 200-250 watts depending on the range, although their max can go up to 300 watts (the 750 Ti, newer cards have less power consumption).

I had the same question and now I got a bunch of great answers. Because, they keep making games that make my system seem old :p

I'm also severely due for an upgrade, so this thread is definitely good timing. The only issue with upgrading I find is that you start with the video card, which sometimes mean you need a new power supply, which leads to a new motherboard, which leads to new RAM, which leads to... you get the point.

In what case would you need a new motherboard for a power supply? Or are you just saying that once you upgrade one thing, you want to upgrade everything?

I've had situations where my motherboard couldn't handle a newer video card, and once you change your mobo you pretty much have to change everything like power supply, RAM, processor? I could be wrong, and it could be that my situation was due to not having upgraded in 5 years so it may have been more cost effective to just get a brand new system.

I think that, as many people here have suggested, that the GTX750ti is the optimal choice for low-budget gaming. It is a very good card whilst being affordable and it can play most current games at medium settings. It also can play some older games quite well, such as Dark Souls 2 which the 750TI can play at 60FPS at 4K, which is quite an impressive feat.

You would need a monitor that can support 4K, no? That does sound impressive... I'll have to look into this GTX750ti and see if my power supply and mobo can support it.

Yes, you would require a 4K monitor in order to see a meaningful impact although running 4K with a 1080P screen would make for better textures so there would also be a slight improvement. If you are curious about seeing the 750ti run at 4K 60FPS then just look up the potatomasher PC build on YouTube.

What a deliciously ignorant question. There isn't a one size fits all minimum and anybody that suggests otherwise should shut up and drink their juice box.

I want to say either an AMD 270x or an Nvidia 750 ti. They'll both do the job and they run a bit better than consoles so if a PS4 can run the game than you'll be able to run them with these video cards, too.

Go with the AMD 270x if you can. Nvidia crams bloatware down your throat as the only way to get current driver releases.

It also depends of the other parts of your computer not only of your graphic card. In addition you need to have enough memory and a suitable processor for your gaming needs. But I would recommend you nVidia GTX series.

Why arbitrarily suggest nVidia without explaining why? There isn't a one size fits all answer here.
