mmorpg's have become more popular these days and I like to think they're part of the top dog in gaming terms. What are the things you look for in a mmorpg? What is it that you need to have? What kind of things make it or kill it? For me I want an expansive world, great character development, great story, great combat and so on. Anything that makes an mmorpg great I want it in any mmorpg.

I like to look for the following, but not all are essential:

    • Affordable
    • Good Community
    • Good Story
    • Large, detailed world
    • Good characters and quests
    • Lots of levels to go up
    • Updated a lot

I look for a rich, complex and large environment, interesting story and characters, a good combat system like you said, good quests and has the ability to keep you hooked to it for a while.

The top two things I look for are the price point and world expansion. It has to be priced affordably so I can keep playing and I have to be able to keep exploring the worlds. I wouldn't wanna get bored

I'm very picky when it comes to MMORPG's. Here are some of the following I expect to see when I play MMORPG's.
    • Entertaining content. A large variety of weapons, players, quests, side missions, party quests, etc.
    • Difficulty. There are some games which I find too easy to level now. I want a challenge, and a penalty when I die.
    • No pay-to-win. There are certain games that has a cash shop. Some of these cash shops give a major advantage, and I don't want that.
    • Updates. I want frequent updates. Class changes, map updates, new mobs, new weapons, new content in general. A consistently updated MMORPG would be fantastic.
I'm sure there is a lot more that I've forgot to mention, but these are crucial to me when I choose MMORPG's.

Here are few things all I look for in a MMORPG before buying or subscribing out it unless it a F2P -

1.) Lore - Is there a meaningful lore? If yes, then I am all for it.

2.) Combat system - Is the combat system cool? Is it tab-targeted system? I am not playing it.

3.) Is it a good F2P system or is it pay-to-win?

4.) Support - Ar the devs supporting this game? Will there be constant updates?

There are several factors that I take into consideration before I start getting into a game. The first thing I like to do is to experience the game myself, I rarely let someone else's opinions affect my judgement. For me a MMORPG must have an interesting story to tell, engaging characters and places and a good (and fair combat system). The world must be a big one as well. I like games that give a lot quests, because to be honest I'm nore into questing than fighting.

The game must have plenty of dungeons :) So hopely the dungeons won't be so crowded and me and my friends can enjoy some treasure hunting. Having good boss monsters to slay is a huge plus :)

Same here. I don't wanna get bored with playing same stuff. I get baffled and quit the game when I am told by some bald monk to go to the same forest again and again to do the same stuff for him. I have had enough of kill fetch quest already.

I have a deep want for a varied environments where most locations have notable features, large amounts of music tracks that fits well with the location and that I won't forget about later, skills kind of like the runescape skill tree, leveling up being meaningful and a friendly playerbase.

Unfortunately I believe no mmo will live up to all of these expectations, and my expectations are a bit high.

The main aspect for me in any MMO is always about endgame. Sure the lore and leveling can be fun but it always comes down to endgame. Does it keep my interest, PvP and ranking I believe are very important.

I also need a strong community, in any MMO I need the connection to my guild. I dont always want to be grinding so sometimes I just want to be socializing.

For me, the most important is fun gameplay and free of bots. The bots kill the game. It is also important to have a good community and having some quests like a dungeon that require a teamwork to complete.

I think one of the main things for me is for it to have a good backstory and setup. It's very important that that appeals to me.

Other than that of course it should also have a free version so I can have a taster before actually paying for it and getting into it properly. A massive world, good gameplay mechanics are also obviously needed for a good overall game.

Another thing which is important to me is having good quality quests rather that just go fetch quests which many MMOs tend to apply.

It should be f2p with a cash shop. There should be multiple character classes and huge character customization. There should be very good graphics and a very strong storyline. The level cap will be relatively low. Huge amount of class skills. No filler quests! Dungeon raiding and boss fights. PVP in an arena with different game types and matches.

First of all i want realistic graphics and portrayal of the game's world. Also high popularity would be a plus. Lots of options that determine your character's personality, interests and his course of actions. And last but not least, it would be better if you payed to buy the game for the first time, but after that everything would be free.

A lot of levels is what I want.
Slow progression is the most fun, because you really get to experience the zones you are in and you meet a lot of people that level with you.

An understanding that PVE and PVP are separate entities and cannot be treated with the same patch notes. One aspect (usually PVP) should not suffer for the benefit of PVE content. Dev's need to find a way to properly address the issues in both aspects without affecting the other

I think what seperates the good games from the successful games are two things, a good community and competition. You need a good community in order for your game to grow and for people to continue playing and you need competition in the form of a pvp ladder or extremely hard bosses in order for people to have an incentive to keep playing.

The biggest thing I would like to see is something innovative.

I would like to see a game that is truly different, and not a rehash of the same old fantasy/sci fi/epic tale cliches. (i.e. You're THE ONE!!!!, save the world, do this totally random thing for lulz)

I would like to see a persistent sandbox world where combat is a viable, but not the only game play option.

I would like to see players be able to affect the world in a meaningful way through something other than voting or out-of-game choices.

I would like to see a game where characters and races and and abilities are truly different (in a non-combat MMO, not everyone has to be equals).

The MMO genre has been my favorite since the UO days, but I haven't been a super-active player for a few years now. Mainly because I am very tired of the same-old same-old. I think it's time for developers to take some risks and try something new. I know this is easier said than done when you have a company and profits on the line.

I want choices. I want to be able to choose from a variety of things, not only have one or two options.
I want great graphics. I love to explore in MMORPGS and I want it to be great.
I need a good story line. This will be my main motivation for playing the game. It better be good and original.
I want it to be fair. I hate it when people with money can easily buy their way through a game and have a huge advantage in the game. It seems unfair and wrong.
